We spent some time in the restaurant/cafe overlooking the harbour on a very damp day and enjoyed watching all the various ships passing by as well as the ferries to and from the Wadden Islands of Terschling and Vlieland. There is an entrance to the canal system not far away so it was quite busy with canal barge traffic as well.

We enjoyed our 1 1/2 hour journey to Vlieland. The ferry offers a large outdoor deck and comfortable indoor seating. Cars and bicycles can be taken as well. The company is well organised and staff were friendly. The small self service restaurant offer snacks and simple meals and beverages. Can recommend to try the locally brewed beer “Brouwdok”. Vlieland is a beautiful island and a great place to spend walking and cycling for 1 day to even a couple of weeks.
