We were staying in Avon where we asked the concierge about the local golf courses. She mentioned some of the more well known places (Beaver Creek, AvonVail) but said that the best bang for the buck was Gypsum Creek. At $49.00 it was a bargain.

Originally the course was built as a private course to anchor a housing tract. That didn't work out (although they are building houses again) so they opened it to the public. It is a far test of the average golfer. The course is pretty well maintained. While we were there they were digging along the fringe of some of the fairways installing new water lines. That annoyance aside, it was a good walk spoiled.

An excellent Arnold Palmer Golf course of links style in the Vail Valley in Eagle Ranch.

Spectacular scenery and you can imagine our surprise as a heavy snow storm came through. Then rain and squalls. The course is in excellent condition. We played off the blue tees and found it a real challenge.

Scenery is just unbelievable and every hole is totally unique.

Found all staff extremely friendly and helpful. I play at a lit of courses whilst holidaying and this is hard to beat. Would love to play on a beautiful day, rather than a wet and windy day with storms.

Nonetheless a great golf experience.

We saw this as we were zipping by on the highway and decided to stop in. It was the most fun spontaneous stop of the trip. The bartender, Frank, was entertaining and very well versed in the making of rum and the mixing of drinks as well as general information about the area. Their rum is quite tasty too! Now if we could only get it in Texas....

We booked a horseback ride to a cave with ancient petroglyphs. The guides, Marty and Marley were friendly and knowledgeable about the area, the scenery and the cave. The Aspens and the ride up the mountain's steep trail was beautiful. We spotted a Bald Eagle near its nest and bear claws scratched on trees. Leaving our horses tethered, we climbed a steep bank to enter the cave. With flashlights in hand, you have to bend very low to reach the back of the cave. The petroglyphs are amazing - many still have vibrant color after thousand+ years. To photograph, we had to shine the flashlights to provide adequate lighting. Our guide explained some of the meanings and that experts are still studying some of the meanings. We have taken many horseback rides in many states and countries, but this was one of the best.

Great place for families wanting some good food and drinks and activity for the kids. We have been there three times over the years and had fun each time. Clean. Good equipment. Decent/good food. Shuffle board and pool if bowling isn't your thing. Even and outside seating area and lawn to enjoy out back. It's an easy way to satisfy kids and parents at the same time for a fair price.

My wife and I stumbled on this place, while we were picking a few things up in town, on our last camping/fishing excursion. We had been thinking about giving fly fishing a shot as something we can both learn together. Fortunately, we ran into Bob. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. When he realized that they were complete novices, he asked if we would like to step out front for a fly fishing "workshop." We jumped at the chance! We learned proper casting form with a splash of more advanced techniques. He offered great prices on his rods, but when l told him that we had just picked one up from somewhere else, there were absolutely no high pressure sales. Instead, he totally hooked us up, taught us how to tie all of our knots, and when they were just too crazy, did them for us. We WILL be back. If you have the slightest interest in fly fishing... You should go see Bob. He'll treat you right!!

I enjoy stopping in every few weeks to browse through the store and see if there is anything out that I just can't live without. It's an entertaining 30 minutes even if I don't find anything, and it's a great day when I find something for decorating my home. So far I've gotten an Egyptian hieroglyphic alphabet that adorns the wall in one of my bathrooms, a Saltillo style night stand for my bedroom, a child's rocking chair for my visting grandkids, a painting for the guest room, a very unique ceramic pot that holds the spoons, spatulas and tongs in my kitchen and a number of other items.

There are a lot of wealthy people with second homes in the Vail valley, and it seems they redecorate quite regularly. I guess that's one of the things you do when you have a lot of money. Anyway, some of the "old" furniture, art and decoration ends up here, and it is often intriguing, beautiful and a fraction of the cost for new.

Go check it out. They have a location in Avon, too.

Awesome back country jeep tour with beautiful fall colors and great views. Timberline Tours is great to work with. Easy planning and reservation we’re a cinch. They came right to our house and picked us up and dropped us off when tour was over. Drivers provided us a wealth of information and history about the area. This was the 3rd jeep tour I’ve taken with this company and will definitely use them again.
