Special Memories Zoo

It's right outside of Appleton, so I would consider it in attractions near there. The list it on their city tourism site, as well. This was surprisingly big and a great value.

We look forward to going to this zoo at least yearly. They have a wide variety of animals, from sloths, camels, big cats, Coatimundis, monkeys and more.
The zoo also has a train that explores others areas of the zoo, and the person driving the train stops at numerous locations to point out and let people experience these animals, from badgers, porcupines, deer and other animals.
We took our 11 year old grandson and he enjoyed it as much as we did. Thanks, Special Memories!

The Fox City PAC is an amazing facility in the heart of downtown Appleton. For a town of its size, it rivals almost all other similar venues in the state. We have been there multiple times for plays, musicals, concerts and speakers. There is virtually no bad seat in the house and the staff is always friendly. Parking can be a bit tricky near the PAC but it's easy to park on a side street and walk over. Centrally located near restaurants and bars for a stop before or after. The offerings are better than almost all other state venues often getting national tours before other locations in the state. It is a great place to catch a show or a concert.

Tom (vineyard master and winemaker) and Holly Boettcher (master gardener) have created a charming vineyard in Hortonville, WI, that is already attracting crowds--even before the first vintage has been offered for sale. While the vines are maturing to their productive stage, Whistler's Knoll is hosting a variety of events that will undoubtedly serve to promote wine culture in Central Wisconsin.

We attended a Mediterranean food and wine pairing comprising 5 courses and 5 wine selections, each of which were truly delicious and well-matched. The food was provided by a local restaurant (Carmella's) and the wines were chosen and introduced by wine expert Holly Weisman. If I lived nearby, I would try to attend all of their events! I am certainly looking forward to trying their own vintage, once it is available. Tom said the grape production this year (2015) should yield a small quantity, and I am confident that Tom will be able to make an admirable wine (I did get to try some wine he made with grapes sourced from elsewhere, and it was excellent).

Stopped by after a visit to Barlow Planetarium. It had a beautiful collection of paperweights and glass art. Many of the pieces were behind glass so it was accessible to families but I would not bring very young children there. Thanks for the five-star. We're glad you enjoyed the visit. We do welcome people of all ages and have an I-Spy game to keep kids entertained, and yes, very young children may be more entertained across the street on the playground.

Our favorite storybook character visited the museum. They had coloring activities after the book reading. He loved every minute of it. He also loved playing in the 3 year old and under area. It's gated off so you don't have to worry about your little one running away from you. Great place for my almost 2 year old.

Four of us ate there last week. I had sirloin tips served with grilled onions and gravy. Flavor, tenderness was to die for! My wife had a Philly steak sandwich which she shared with me (light eater). That, too was as good as could be. Our friends had a hot beef sandwich and a hamburger, which they both enjoyed very much. Drinks were very good, waiter was friendly, witty, pretty, and efficient.

One of the nation's preeminent liberal arts colleges and conservatories of music, Lawrence University, one of the "Colleges That Change Lives," draws students from nearly every state and more than 50 countries. Cultural attractions: conservatory concerts, art galleries, 21 varsity teams, and--believe it--great food.

We came to see the school with my so who is a rising senior. But it's without students right now so it's hard to get a feel for what it's really like. The Warch building is stunning with its locally sourced stone flags, materials, and energy (green roof, and solar power!). And other standout spots include the music building and the lovely chapel. I bet when the students are here there's a much better vibe though.

An excellent place to cross country ski, a great place to take a walk and be surrounded in nature yet is only a stones throw outside of Appleton. The only downside is that no dogs are allowed.
