Infinity Column

Reviewed By PopisteanuG - Bucharest, Romania

There is a deep symbolism in the limestone monuments, during a route of 1,753 meters, which starts from the Table of Silence and reaches, crossing the city, to the Endless Gratitude Column to the Heroes of the Nation. It’s a homage to the soldiers who fell in the First World War. Regarding the Table of Silence, there is a Christian dimension of the mass, a table of communion and confession, of peace and silence, a philosophical table, those 12 seats that can be the 12 apostles. Then, on the route there are 30 chairs, in the shape of an hourglass, represent the passage of time. The route passes through the Kiss Gate, which has a special significance, being interpreted as the Gate of Heaven, as a triumphal arch of the soldiers' victory. It is like a gateway to the Great Passage. There are the two benches and they can symbolize the wait before the Last Judgment. The Kiss Gate has an architrave that is like a dowry box, therefore being a wedding gate. Speaking of heroes, of young men who had fallen in the war, some of them unable to kiss a girl, they went to marry Death. The dowry box on the two pillars of the gate is also relevant from this perspective. The route leads to the Infinite Column and passes through the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. There is a route of the burial ritual, when young soldiers say goodbye to life in a last meditative state, walking their way to the Kiss Gate. As the funeral procession has stops, they are marked by those 30 seats, in five groups each. Into the church, there is the last ritual that the priest performs and we reach the Column, like a Staircase of Jacob, of the ascension of souls to Heaven. The traditional funerary pillar is present in this meaning of the Infinite Column, as a row of rhombohedrons. Each rhombohedron is 1.80 meters in size, which means it is a human state, therefore there is an infinite number of people to Heaven. Infinite Column is a pillar, a funeral tree.

Very interesting Park. Nice images you can find on the way: rocks, cliffs, forests, the road sneaking between the hills, the river sneaking behind the road, the sun sneaking behind the trees and the sun sneaking behind the few clouds. Nice imagery, beautiful views, raw nature cut by a road.

Polovragi Cave

A beautiful natural cave formed at the begining of the Oltetului Canyon.

Reviewed By Viorel_25 - Sibiu, Romania

Starting from Polovragi Monastery , which guards as a barrier the end of the main street belonging to the commune, we dare to climb the gorges , initially along Polovragi Forest , a protected natural area for edible chestnut and Mediterranean vegetation . Leaving the forest, the steep bank on the right - Căpățânii Mountain and the guard on the left - Parâng Mountain , announce the entrance to Olteț Gorges. The forest road, of public utility, climbs smoothly, parallel to the Olteț river, which, from the abyss of its riverbed, separates the two brother mountains, still digging real gorges, with vertical walls, on the total length of 3 kilometers. The 800 meters of visit able gallery represent the great outflow, and the tourist gate is the downstream, which explains the impressive dimensions at the entrance and the general public. The first sector of the gallery (approximately 400 m from the entrance) has an exceptional emotional load because, being the most accessible part, it has been over time a refuge of locals: Dacians, healers, monks, each with at least a distinct symbol.
