James River Cellars Winery

We are a family-owned and operated farm winery, located just north of Richmond VA. A refreshing change from the ordinary! Our staff serves a tasting of wines from whites to delicious reds and dessert wines in a tranquil country setting. Enjoy a picnic on our beautifully landscaped patio or capture the view from the terrace. James Batterson, winemaker, creates all wines from Virginia grown grapes.

This winery is right on historic Route One just up from 295. It is a cute little place that is in the process of expanding. The tasting menu has 13 wines on it and they had two more open to try. All their wines were very good with a few sweeter ones. I bought a bottle of their sweeter ones.

Tis place has it all! Paintings, sculptures, furniture, Faberge, artifacts...you name it, they have it! I was pleasantly surprised and how much I enjoyed this museum. It's a lot to take in for one visit so, I will be returning. I would describe this museum as a "mini Louvre." I just cannot say enough great things!

Our Ashland Rotary Club met here for an informal social where potential Rotary members came for a meet and greet. The staff at Center of the Universe Brewing was gracious and helpful. They helped us choose a draft beer to suit our tastes and the food that was prepared was delicious with choices for all dietary needs. While there the staff kept checking on every person to make sure everyone had what they wanted. Did I say that their beer is excellent. My experience there was perfect. I'm now a big fan of Center of the Universe Beers!!

My son and I did the Innocent and Speak Easy escape rooms with a group of people we didn’t know and we all worked well together. Both rooms were challenging especially Innocent. I recommend this room only to others who love ERs and have done many, I had not and we were with 4 others who had never done an escape room and we barely cover 60% of the room when our time was up. But I loved how both rooms were detailed to the theme of the rooms and creativeness of the puzzle flow and all the secret doors were a unique surprise too!

Lavender Fields Herb Farm

Reviewed By Coccindy

We met family in Glen Allen for lunch after a three hour drive. We had been wanting to go to Lavender Fields so we planned a visit after lunch. Wow, what a disappointment! Very small amount of plants for sale and one small greenhouse. Their country store was in a small shed and was all things Lavender, which is the only place I saw any Lavender. They boast about their Lavender Ice cream like its abundant. There is a small cube freezer with a tiny sign saying "Lavender Ice Cream".

This place is nothing more than someones back yard. I hardly call it a farm. Im SO glad we didnt make a special trip to see it! The website makes it VERY deceiving!

Have to admit that it is a little funny seeing this in the list of attractions of Glen Allen.. it is a grocery/farmer's market after all. But if you are looking for a grocery with a farmer's market atmosphere then this the place for you. You will find fresh fruits and veggies in season, good prices on quality beef and seafood. You might even smell the bread being baked there. While this is not a one stop grocery stop, this is somewhere to get fruits and veggies, breads, and some delicious salad dressings too.

6 family and friends, Saturday afternoon, an hour of great fun. We all enjoyed it. Difficulty of puzzles varied, but process is linear and it helps to keep that in mind so you don't skip something if someone solves something a few steps ahead - could result in missing a clue you need later in the game.

I would recommend it for older teens and up, younger kids probably should have a 1 kid 1 adult ratio, but everyone should have a great time.

It was a first escape room experience for all of us and I am sad to say we got obsessed with a couple of the early puzzles and didn't finish. However we discussed possible dates we could all get together again at dinner immediately after the experience. Go for it,
