Two Roads Brewing Company

I have never, ever in my life been welcomed more quickly or thoroughly by a brewery as I was here. Ryan told us the magnificent history of the building (it used to be a machine shop) and how the owners of the brewery put it all together just five years ago, it's a captivating tale.

The brews were marvelous, but I knew they were good from having tried them at Ambulance Brew House in Nanuet, NY, but they were so very, very fresh right at the brewery. It was stunning to look at, too, the artwork on the fermenters, the bar counter being made of recovered materials from the machine shop, and a beautiful sunset in the background. It was like "Beer in the Museum"!

We've already plotted our return on the way back.

Fairfield Museum and History Center

In a beautiful location. I saw a photo exhibition and an illustrators exhibition(the guy who did poppers penguins), both in a small room each. The main exhibition was a history of settlers and local native Americans but skimmed over any areas of contention and didn't mention any history probably deemed uncomfortable. Also didn't have a single staff member talk to me and I was the only person in the whole place. Could do with a friendlier more personal vibe for a small local historical centre.

Beardsley Zoo

Stopped here for a quick break. I ended up staying a couple hours. It's not a big zoo but it is a fun one. Many exhibits had glass observation points and many places to escape the rain (it was raining). This would be good for small children as a learning experience and just have fun.

This is one of the few places in the area where you can park and take a walk on the beach without paying or walking very far. Nice walk through the area as well. Get an ice cream at Marnicks and enjoy some rays and waves!

Bridgeport Bluefish Baseball Club

I've watched a few Bluefish games. It's a nice place to spend an evening -- kids and adults alike seem to like it there. There's a few vendors from ice cream to craft beers and food. The prices are reasonable for a ballpark. It's so nice to see the trains go back in the background and watch the sun set.

Lake Mohegan Recreation Area

Reviewed By Wenlingma - Boston, Massachusetts

Mohegan lake has been our family's favorite "short" hiking place. There are red-trail, and yellow-trail. Red-trail is around the lake, a little shorter. My son used to run along it every day during his high school year. Sure enough, there were a lot of his foot prints left in the trail. My daughter and I did the hour-long hiking weekly when we lived there. Along the way, you will meet all kinds of dogs, long-leg, short-leg, big, small, masculine, feminine, long-hair, no-hair, etc. Be aware, there are roots sticking out all over the places which my daughter got tripped often. In summer, it is a natural cool place with tree leaves covering the sky. In fall, beautiful foliage will make you forget to go home.

Seaside Park is a beautiful place along Long Island Sound. Parking "inside" the park is crazy expensive for non-residents ($50!) but there was street parking that was free. Beautiful place to walk- in the park and on the beach, and to swim and picnic.

Jennings Beach is very full with couples and families during the summer, but after Labor Day there is nothing like a walk on Jennings Beach. The crowds thin out and it is the perfect place to have a nice quiet walk with someone special or with just a group of friends.
