The mighty Lake Victoria was thought for a long time to be the source of the Nile. It is in a sense. Waters from the large lake leave by the Victoria Nile to head north to join the Albert Nile in northern Uganda. When the water leaves the massive Lake Victoria, it does so in a spectacular fashion. The water pours out of the lake at the Ripon Falls, also known as Owen Falls Dam, in Uganda. It then goes by the Victoria Nile to Lake Kyoga before joining the Albert Nile. The lake itself is shared by three countries: Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. The headwaters for the streams that feed the lake, however, originate from the mountains of Rwanda and Burundi. its a spectacular breathtaking view.

Sharif the tour guide was amazing. He knew the history of the falls, did the bookings for us for transportation and accommodation. He's friendly and gave us a worth while tour of the caves and history of the falls. The authentic, original Source of the Nile Site, where the British Explorer Speke first discovered the River Nile (of course the Africans knew there was a river, but anyway..). Stand where he stood, take a picture with the monument, go for boatrides across the river nile and into Lake Victoria, see monkeys, monitor lizards, pythons (and maybe even an authentic African Witchdoctor). The site also allows for camping, nature walks, parties and occasions with a truly spectacular nature setting. Ideal for Birdwatching and anyone looking for 1 day tour in the Ugandan Countryside.

we visited the source of the Nile courtesy of "Bunya Adventures"and it was my second time at this place. its always breathe taking going to there and so much had changed, like the recreation center,Mahatma Gandhi statue,did a boat ride unto the source of the Nile. Its actually amazing to see houses on the water and whats beautiful is to see how the river starts inside the lake Victoria.(water separation). There is also a Gift shop that has good stuff made from Uganda which would be nice for remembrance. i actually bought key holders for myself and my family.

its so breathe taking to get closer on the water as it has a powerful sound and steam especially in the morning but one has to be careful with the slippery rocks during rainy season as you easily slide away. i loved the rafting on the falls,took great pictures with a help from Robert and Trevor of Bunya Adventures. The road is dusty and its around minutes drive. The locals were very friendly too when we needed directions

We really enjoyed the morning/ afternoon up there. It is quite a distance from the road BUT well worth it. The staff are brilliant anf friendly, the zip lining is great in the trees and you do feel yourself get higher. The initial climb up to the zip line platforn is a nice little cardio to get the heart pumping. My mum was terrified doing the first one and that didnt seem to go away as she competed the course. She throughly enjoyed every terrified minute of it though and would love to it again. I also wanted a walk through the forest as i am interested in the vegetation and medicinal properties of plants. We tried to catch the monkey's but you have to get there eary and we were delayed by over an hr (totally my fault) It was sad to see the little waterfall full of pollution however it's good we are shown the effects of mass production and the impact on the environment. I enjoyed the trip and would go back again to try catch the monkey's. Kato is an excellent guide.

Bujagali Falls used to be a very popular site to see raids and waterfalls on the Nile. Unfortunately a dam constructed down stream has raised the level of the water to cover the falls. However there is an option to take boar tour for about 2 hours to travel a few Km up the river to the base of the Owens falls Dam where there are still some rapids. The trip was excellent and the guide Ronald ( tel 0704 976 595) extremely knowledgeable. We saw many types of waterbirds, Otters, 2 species of monkey, monitor lizards etc; visited a cave with salt deposits and offerings from the local community. Well recommended. The cost was only 100,000 including the guide. The boat was large enough for 10+ people
