Hornhead Loop

Hornhead Loop is a stellar gem in County Donegal's impossible array of nature's hypnotic and compellingly moody abundance. Driving a sporty manual transmission vehicle around and through its compelling twists and of wild variety induces emotional reactions ranging from total silence to unplanned interjection.
Hornhead Loops's yet another brilliant playground in and for free flung horseplay. In giving myself over to indulgent up and downshifting in harmony with a compelling range of curves, turns, rises and dips, at times my wife's neck and head aptly mirrored the geographic and gravitational forces in interplay. That is until I was admonished to take it down a notch.
Hornhead kinda does that to ya~

We were visiting with friends last year and three of our kids went out along the beach. It was the first time for my two (16/13) and they were really well looked after and really did enjoy it despite some nervous energy at the start...hope to visit again soon!

My daughter attended a week of Surfing summer camp in July and absolutely loved it. They alternated between Marblehill and Falcarragh Beaches and both were so beautiful. Luckily the weather was mostly great but even on the colder days they played lots of beach games to keep warm. We also took adult Surfing lessons and it was so much fun! The instructors are amazing, I was delighted to manage to stand up and catch a few waves. Thanks John, Dylan, Lee and all the others, didn't catch all the names.
Definitely recommend this surf school to anyone looking to learn Surfing in a fun and relaxing atmosphere!

The Workhouse

Reviewed By preglad - New York

The Workhouse isn't essentially fault free as an attraction. Some of the three dimensional models and sets come off as less than artisitic in presentation, even a bit cheesy. There could be more of much, but I suspect the economic alternative would have been never opening its doors at all, leaving us without something immediate and valuable beyond its evident shortcomings.
I believe the fundamental Workhouse focus to be more human and intimate in nature, an in the moment attempt to put a human face on "the troubles"and potato famine. It's nature mirrors strictly neither a history book nor museum, maybe closer to a primitive sociological glimpse. If attentive, we can get a sense of how much suffering wasn't so much circumstantial as it was willful and disinterested.
We see a bit more closely the effects of such a stoic response posing as care. The workhouse as clearly better than nothing, offering primitive shelter and basic provision, but the price was very high if not economically but culturally. It was a step up from an epochal prison, one in which those contained were crime free, and as of the case with its fellow institution, held captive by a larger based social injustice.
One animated version of a woman who essentially more survived than lived a long life tells her story in a simple narrative. There is a moment of the heartfelt kindness of others which impacted her later life and sidesteps the drudgery and depression associated with the norm in such tales.
The workhouse was for us worthwhile experience. I gave a somewhat inflated "very good' in the sense we're glad we had the experience and would not wish to discourage others less quickly judgmental in nature to give it a go.
There's a very nice cosy (good value with tasty homemade baking options and a lovely proprietress) tearoom as well which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Marble Hill Strand

One of a number of Beaches in Sheephaven Bay, this is the creme de la creme! Tucked away down a side road of the main Letterkenny to Dunfanaghy road, it is popular but never crowded. An amazing stretch of sand, backed by sand dunes and sheltered to the rear and sides, it is highly recommended and worth a visit. On the main road, watch out for a sign for the Shandon Hotel and Spa.

Jaws Water Sports

We organised some water sports activities with Donald the day before our wedding.
Organising an event in advance is challenging with the weather! We had initially wanted to rent out kayaks until the day before where Donald advised us it would be too windy. We went with surf boards and body boards in the end and it was worth it!
The weather was chilly but with the wet suits you don't feel the cold as much (don't recommend going out without one).
Overall great experience and Donald is very easy going which seems to how things work here.

A world of wonderful contemporary Irish art, crafts, gifts and even antiques.
It was great to see so many media including paintings, lino-cuts, etchings, ceramic work, jewellery and more. Plus there were a great many prints, already framed for a good price. Art products such as good pencils and paints were on sale and the antiques were widely varied and all beautiful from furniture to silver spoons.
The gift shop area was coming down with local crafts including stunning woven blankets, jewellery, stained glass and leather work. Plus fun tourist and children's items.
The owner was really very friendly and helpful indeed.

All round this area the scenery is just beautiful - clear crystal water and miles upon miles of white sandy Beaches - just add Sunshine and it could give any continental beach a run for its money - in fact its better because it is peaceful and beautiful. The forest areas which also line the coast are beautiful so you have the best of both worlds
