Zhaimingsi

Reviewed By 619jeffry - Essendon, Australia

Zhaiming Temple is unusual because it is a Buddhist monastery, not just a temple. It is over 150 years old, founded during the Ching Dynasty, before the Japanese colonial era (1895-1945). The monastery has a statue of Guanyin, the goddess of mercy. During the weekend, the nuns serve tea and coffee, and free vegetarian food -- make whatever donation you consider appropriate. The monastery is included in Taiwan's top 100 religious sites. The aim of the monastery is "To uplift the character of humanity and build a pure land on earth." By the way, the monastery has a museum attached which may be of interest.

Dasi Old Town

Reviewed By Darius_7777 - Taipei, Taiwan

Dasi is a really great place to visit. You can have a very different experience from the city. In Dasi, there is unique architecture which is from the Japanese occupation period and the Dasi old street is famous. Dasi also is one of the Taiwan top ten towns for sightseeing. The only disadvantage is always full of people in the weekend. This time I participated in an annually festival called "DaxiDaxi" in summer. It was really spectacular and worth it.
