November 10, 2017 Trinity Boughner

Clayton is a town in Johnston County, North Carolina, and considered a satellite town of Raleigh. As of 2010, Clayton's population was 16,116 people. Much of that growth can be attributed to the town's close proximity to the Research Triangle area and access to major highways such as I-40, U.S. 70, and NC 42.

We have lived here too long without visiting this place! We were there on a Saturday, and only the 2 picnic shelters were in use. There are probably another 20 picnic tables in the shade of the pines and hardwoods, scattered around the entrance. There are miles and miles of walking trails, either crushed stone or pine needle paths that are easy to walk on, but watch for tree roots. We actually saw a family with small children that allowed the kids to come in flip flops. The parents had on good hiking shoes, which I would strongly recommend. It is hilly, woodsy and some mud. We only saw one snake in 2.5 hours, but still, flip flops? Anyway, we will be back. We saw the same hikers while we walked because we all kept looking for trail markers. It is very poorly marked, very poorly. But a great place anyway.

These courts were just refinished about a year ago and they are already showing cracks and wear. The two far courts are not even, I know that shows strange but you can see how they tilt down and to one corner. This is very evident after it rains with water puddling more in those corners. Nice half mile track and sports fields.

This is a great place to eat good food truck food while enjoying great beer, good service and music. The picnic tables and patio allows you to do outdoor drinking while still being able to hear the band. The added bonus of being dog friendly is great. Come on out and raise a glass with this Clayton gem.

One Thursday night, I stumbled into Wine on Main while I had a free moment awaiting my child who was attend an after school activity. What a pleasant surprise! There was a "living room" full of folks socializing. Wine tastings were flowing in the back. One of the owners pointed me to a few terrific wine selections. Service was great. If you do not drink wine, it is a good place to go to get recommendations and gifts. All the folks that worked there were personable. Check out their facebook page for links to helpful wine you tube videos.

Finally got to visit, they have only been open a matter of months. Bartenders are well schooled, the Sazerac was one of the best ever. The dirty martini was done as requested, and the local Broadslab shine was available. The have local brews, but mostly a huge selection of whiskeys for drinks. Clayton has it going on! This just builds on the remaking of this great little town. Done as a speakeasy, with occasional live music. Antique furnishings mixed with industrial chic. Music selection was also amazing to listen to while sitting outside on the covered patio. Love the alleyway too! Warning, they do not really serve food, so eat before or plan to eat after.

Riverwood Golf Course

Reviewed By SirNigel58 - Morrisville, North Carolina

We played this course (Riverview & Meadowlands) on August 14, 2013 and it is a very nice layout. They have 27 holes. The course was very interesting as no two holes seemed the same. The only reason I didn't give it another star was that the greens had been aerated as well as the tee boxes but not to where we could not putt on them. I'm guessing in another week they should be back to normal. I will definitely be back to play again. The Riverview course offers a lot of views of the Neuse river. We used a friend's Groupon or Living Social coupon so am not sure what the green fees would have been.

So I was waiting for them to reopen after I guess there was an change of ownership. The entrance fee is cheap. The comedian was better than what the previous ownership booked. The menu seems better. I have an issue with the 2 item minimum per person... Then during the show service was decent. I have a REAL issue with the fact that our waitress wasn't tracking our orders and we were the last people in the room STILL waiting for our check when the other show was supposed to start. To add insult to injury they tacked on a 15% gratuity... Um no... We should've been comped at that point... Your mess up NOT mine and I shouldn't be FORCED to tip your screw up. What used to be a cheap date not not anymore... Drinks are about $9-10

Wine & Design Clayton

Reviewed By NCTraveler2015 - Raleigh, North Carolina

Wine and Design has a franchise in Clayton now, so if you love the concept of painting while drinking a little wine with some friends, this is a place for you.

The concept is simple, you look on the calendar and find a painting you'd like to paint. Then you arrive and they have everything ready for you from the canvas to the paints to the brushes to even an apron to protect your clothing. An artist will then talk you through the painting demonstrating what to do.

They also offer open studios where you can pick a painting that might not make it on the calendar or if everyone in your group wants to paint something different, than this is the way to go. You will either have an example painting to look at or an example printed out on paper. Some of the canvas will be traced out as well to provide guidance. The paint colors needed are provided and an artist will get you started and help throughout. Although this is not the step by step instruction of the regular class.

The studio has tables that seat four and there is an area for you to put any food or beverages you bring along.

It is a little tricky to find as it is a new building so give yourself some extra time to find the Harris Teeter and CVS shopping area. It is just a short drive from Raleigh but is really convenient to those in Knightdale, Garner, Southeast Raleigh and Zebulon

I had a nice time relaxing for a few hours so I will go back again.
