Mountaineer Casino

We have been to Mountaineer several times for the casino but not much else. When our anniversary arrived I though a relaxing weekend at the spa, pool and fun at the casino would be the best way to celebrate, I was wrong! Apparently it's common and excepted by the resort for parents to book a room and leave their children at the pool or to hang around the hotel unattended while they gamble. The whole weekend we were unable to use either of the resorts 2 pools because of the 25+ children running wild. When I asked the front desk about the unsupervised children at the pools, she stated they are a "child friendly" hotel and as long as their not in the actual casino, there wasn't any problems. If I wanted to spend my weekend fighting children I would of went to Disney World not a Casino, looks like we won't be booking there for our next getaway!!

If you are a fan of Fiesta Ware, then Homer Laighlin Factory Store should be on your list. In addition to new Fiesta you will find a seconds room with a large selection of factory seconds at reduced prices. If you examine pieces carefully you will find many with minor, barely noticeable flaws. Take a clean rag if you plan to look through the seconds, they can be quite dusty.

From the old steel bridge to the canal locks and cabins this gem is a photo shoot waiting to happen. We hiked several trails of varying difficulty. Be sure to take the bug spray in summer and avoid the horse trails for hiking if it is raining. Great park.

I attended two performances on the same day at the center. In the morning we attended the Pittsburgh Symphony's Fiddlestiks Concert. It was great to hear the orchestra and the acoustics were super.
That evening my daughter and I attended the Bo Wagner performance of the music of Frank Sinatra/Barbara Streisand. A 15 piece orchestra along with the two performers was exceptional.
Lincoln Park has many wonderful programs and I plan to attend many more.

The Museum of Ceramics

The Museum of Ceramics, which is operated by the Museum of Ceramics Foundation and the Ohio History Connection, houses an extensive collection of the wares produced in the city long known as "America's Crockery City" and "The Pottery Capital of the Nation." Enjoy a 12-minute movie about the Ohio valley pottery industry, then explore 2 floors of exhibits, including life-size dioramas of people working in the potteries. The museum houses the largest public collection of Lotus Ware porcelain. The museum building, formerly a post office, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is closed during January, February, and most of March except for previously arranged tours.

There may not be much to warrant a trip to East Liverpool's depressing downtown. This museum is an absolute exception. Set in an architecturally stunning former post office, the museum offers a wonderful look at the region's heyday of pottery manufacturing. And the staff couldn't be more helpful. We arrived late but they even stayed open a few extra minutes to give us time to stroll through the extensive exhibitions. Not enough time to do it justice but certainly enough to guarantee a return visit.

Five of us kayaked the Little Beaver Creek from Gretchen's Lock (part of Beaver Creek State Park) to the Lock 57 Community Park at the Ohio River on July 5th. The creek was perfect and clear with many novice level rapids. The creek was moving fast enough that you really only had to steer if you wanted a really leisurely ride but you could really move if you wanted to paddle. We had two 40-something couples and a 15-year old and we all loved it!

I am a very frequent customer to this store. His prices are competitive to what you would find online, without the hassle of paying shipping or waiting for the mail. He doesn't carry low quality products that break easily, and the selection is growing bigger every time I go in. I would HIGHLY recommend this shop to anyone who is interested in quitting smoking or picking up a fun hobby.
