Charlotte Hall is a census-designated place (CDP) in Charles County and St. Mary's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 1,420 at the 2010 census. The Maryland Veterans Home for disabled veterans, including a U.S. Veterans Affairs clinic, is located on the site of the former Charlotte Hall Military Academy. The Academy site was declared the Charlotte Hall Historic District, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Since 1940, a sizable Amish farming community has existed nearby along with a farmers market and large flea market complex on busy Maryland Route 5, which is also the site of numerous strip-mall businesses continuing into the adjacent community of Mechanicsville.

Very well maintained & interesting home, filled with artifacts from the Mudd family - including the chaise where JWB was diagnosed, and the bed where he was treated. The guide did a great job of describing not only the events surrounding that fateful night, but also shared anecdotes about many of the items on display. Definitely worth a visit!

Went to see "Don't Dress for Dinner" recently and enjoyed the entire experience (well, maybe not the intermission - felt like a sardine in a can and when the outer doors opened...oh my!). Production values are solid, set was incredible and beautifully decorated. Cast was small but talented. Looking over their bios in the playbill it would appear that PTP has a core group of veteran actors that comprise many of their productions. This is a solid indication of a well run company. Kudos on an excellent performance - we'll be back!

We visited Running Hare for a company event. It was our first time being there. It will not be our last. Once you get there after traveling over the river and through the woods, you may forget you are in Calvert County. Beautifully peaceful setting for a relaxing afternoon or evening. Plenty of parking... some close, some about 50 yards away. There were plenty of places to sit… picnic tables at the beer pavilion, and table and chairs over towards the wine pavilion, and spaces for your own chairs or blankets. A good selection of 8 wines to sample and then buy a glass or bottle to sit and enjoy while listening to music piped in or whomever they have performing. Food is available but you can bring your own. Port-a-pottys are a short walk away from the wine tasting pavilion. And at the beer pavilion…I recommend the Oktober fest brew. It’s the only one I tried and decided to stay with it. They are really getting a lot of notoriety so there’s a good chance of a crowd when you visit. One slight issue I had was coming from the Sixes Road (506) and Adelina road (508) direction, the entrance comes up on you pretty fast. A sign about 50 yards before the entrance would be helpful. It may be there and I missed it, but there were 4 of us in the vehicle and no one saw it. But we know where the place is so that won’t be a problem for us next time.

The Maryland Veterans Memorial Museum in Charles County, MD opened it's doors in June, 2013, in the former Glasva Elementary School in Newburg. A wonderful historical experience, outstanding exhibits, and knowledgeable volunteer staff make this museum a must-see. There are continuing commemorative displays for The War of 1812 and The Civil War, as well as many rotating exhibits. There are a variety of military uniforms on display as well as a multitude of items representing all veterans of all national wars including Native-Americans, African-Americans, and women in the military. If you have an opportunity to visit this museum, do it. Even in you have little to no interest in history or the U.S. Military, you can't miss The Maryland Veterans Memorial Museum!

We visit Forrest Hall Farm every other weekend to get apples for us, apples for the deer, fresh vegetables and fruit, cinnamon 'n sugar doughnuts, pies, pumpkins, gourds, just to name a few things!! We love this farm. They have farm animals, a corn maze, a hay ride, a playground area, a hay bale play area and more!! Take a trip here one Saturday, you won't regret it!!

This is a lovely gem of a place out in the countryside in Aquasco, Maryland, close to the Brandywine region! My girlfriend and I had a Groupon reservation for the P.A. Bowen Farm Tour, which I have also reviewed for TripAdvisor. We noticed some colorful gorgeous blankets and a few brochures about the Villa de Alpacas Farm at the store and visitor center at the P.A. Bowen Farm. We wondered what we would find there, so we decided to drive over to the Villa de Alpacas Farm after our arranged farm tour. Both farms are located fairly close to each other, but do follow your GPS on these small roads.
We drove up a private road passing by many curious llamas and alpacas in a fenced in area before we saw a very large and lovely Victorian style home and some outbuildings, definitely a working farm. We were wonderfully greeted at the porch with mulled cider, coffee and sweet treats! Although it was cold outside, the house was toasty warm and inviting. On display were a large array of blankets, hats, jackets, ponchos, gloves and socks, all made from llama and alpaca fleece. It was such a hidden treasure finding this place! We were extremely lucky to choose that day, because Villa de Alpacas happened to be hosting an open house!
We met the kind and knowledgeable owner, Angel Forbes Simmons,and immediately connected with her. Simmons, this former Miami, Florida city girl, inherited this several decades old farm and had to literally reinvent the wheel to keep this family farm sustainable. I highly recommend visiting Villa de Alpacas, but bear in mind that this farm, one of only four farms recognized in 2007 by former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley as continuously operating family businesses for over 200 years in the State of Maryland, strictly schedules their open houses. Please check their website on availability. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed!

We really enjoyed the farm tour this morning (offered Saturdays at 11:00am). We did not have children with us and there were none on our tour, so I do not know how that would be or if things would be adjusted. That said, Farmer Mike spent 90 minutes or so showing us around the farm and telling us a lot about the farm's operations, animals and principals / goals, at our pace and while welcoming and answering all of our questions. We are already fans of small farms with a diversity of crops / animals / products, with organic and animal-welfare conscious practices - and this is that style of farm, and a friendly one with cows, chickens and pigs to see as well as delicious cheeses made on premises. The animals seemed happy and were lively and fun to visit. There is a charge for the tour, but I thought it a good value given the amount of time and information, and it being worthwhile to support the farm.

As a small business in Charles county, I really try to support my local small business. Have spent many memorable evenings there. But the cost to promote my business was mind boggling. I always believe that you get MORE customers by pricing yourself reasonably. Maybe Regency (and the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs) could price themselves reasonably for local small businesses to get THEIR word out. I hope to see you next season.

Needs to Coordinate Large Events Better, Use Both Sides of the Parking Lot
We went to Maryland International Raceway to watch motorcycle racing, mostly to see Larry “Spiderman” McBride and his top fuel drag bike, there were highs and lows to the weekend. They had multiple classes of motorcycle races and 889 racers, since they had so many competitors they did not take a break during the qualifying / racing which meant I had to miss some categories if I also wanted to watch the stunt motorcycle racers which were performing on the other side of the pits. The M.I.R. grounds are kept pretty clean, as are the restrooms; the food was typical track food, not bad but also not great.
With approximately 7,000 fans in attendance and temperatures between 90 to 100 degrees Saturday and Sunday, things should have been planned a lot better. They did not have any place to get out of the sun (signs posted to stay out from under the bleachers) except the restrooms, they did not even have sprinklers set up to help cool you like other events I have attended. If you have approximately 8,000 people (spectators, racers, their crew and track employees) maybe you should have more than 1 building with 6 windows for food and beverages, image waiting in the heat for an hour to be served. The bike parking was the worst part of all; they had people parking where the spectators are supposed to walk through for the restrooms and food. I saw an ambulance trying to come through the walk area behind the stands to get to a patient, people were too busy parking to let them through and the ambulance had to very slowly back up so they could take a different route. Imagine that being your loved one in distress!
I have been to a lot of different racing events at different tracks, including the N.H.R.A. and NASCAR, and have never seen anything worse coordinated then M.I.R., next time I will wait to see Larry at Atco Raceway in Atco N.J.

This quaint, working farm has so much going for it. From the great Farm Stand, with Fresh, local products, including milk, cheese and Ice cream (AMAZING)! To some great programming for kids and adults year round with Agricultural Education, Tours, Games, Ladies Night Out, Fall Corn Maze, Pumpkins, Etc. The list goes on... The Farm Stand is open year round and offers a great selection. I asked and they even have a farm fresh "subscription" program where you can sign up to get weekly fresh milk, seasonal produce, and their amazing ice cream! We will definitely be back. If you are driving through Calvert County, it is well worth the stop! Their website also has some up to date information on ladies wine night and some other great fun programs!
