Grossglockner High Alpine Road

One of Austria's top 3 destinations amidst the Alps The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is like an ornament of ribbons located between green mountain pastures, colourful flower meadows, rocky rubble, ice and show. It nestles up against hills, follows the course of the natural ground and fits the Mountains like a glove. Whooshing Waterfalls, the shrill whistling of marmots and the howling wind in the summit regions create an unforgettable high alpine soundscape. And then, all of a sudden, he appears: his majesty, the Grossglockner, the black mountain. Join us for a journey beyond compare up high to the perpetual ice of the glacier!

Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse is a 48 km scenic drive in the Hohe Tauern National Park. It costs 35.50 EUR per car. Highlights include:
1) Edelweissspitze Panorama station
2) Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Hohe vantage station
3) 1.5 hour Gamsgrubenweg from the vantage station to Wasserfallwinkel
4) 30 min Swarovski-Warte panoramic trail around the vantage station
5) 1.5 hour Pasterzenweg from the vantage station to Pasterze glacier (funicular costs 11 EUR extra each way)
We did the scenic drive on a beautiful sunny day in July. The road condition was excellent, and the views were wonderful. We saw marmots at Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Hohe vantage station. The Swarovski-Warte trail was not very interesting, while Gamsgrubenweg was very scenic and enjoyable. We wanted to do Pasterzenweg but the additional cost of the funicular upset us. Didn't we already pay 35 EUR? We read that the founder of the Hohe Tauern National Park was inspired by Yellowstone and Yosemite in the US, and these national parks cost $25-30 for 7 days. This was 35 EUR for 1 day, plus extra for the funicular. It was just a bit too much.

Very funny.. The roller coaster reachs 50 km/h speed and during the downhill you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Mountains and the Turrachersee.
But too many people go too slowly and use too much the brakes.
If you run just after people like those, you miss the most of the fun because you reach them even in the middle of the downhill and you have to slow as well.
I could see most of this people are typically mothers with kids.
I'd like then to suggest the attendants to wait some more time before giving the green light to drivers following mother with young boys.

A single road passes through the Nockberge & it's usually closed once the snows come with a nominal entry fee.
Stunning scenery which can be enjoyed by drivers, riders and walkers alike. Lots of stop offs on the way to while away the time.
Don't rush it but importantly don't miss out on it

We parked in Mojstrana and took a walk up the hill to the tourist centre, where they were extremely helpful and friendly. From there we walked up the road, following the sign posts, which were very clear. We walked through the beautiful forest along the absolutely breathtaking river of azure water. The walk up to the waterfall is a good hike through the forest, but well worth the reward at the end. It is absolutely stunning! I can highly recommend this trip.

Great gorge track.
This is a narrow, rapid water and loud gorge.
The track is very well maintained and the views are fantastic.
If you are in the region then it is a must see.
This track is worth a detour of one or two hours.
Although steep, we did this track with our little daughter (7) and she mastered it without complaints.
You won't regret.

Aussichtsturm Pyramidenkogel

Reviewed By Hendrik_NL - Rotterdam, The Netherlands

It was busy at the Pyramidenkogel with coaches and "petjesauto's" (This is a Dutch word for more or less derelict cars with noisy exhaust systems, mostly driven by youthful persons with baseball caps). Later we became aware that is was the annual GTI week was celebrated here. But returning to my review, with clear weather it is always rewarding to go up (by elevator) and enjoy the impressive views over the Worthersee. Free parking, entrance for a fee. Free entrance with the Kärnten Card. By the way, when on the viewing platform it is also spectacular to see approaching coaches negotiate the final hairpin curves to the parking lot.

The weather was nice when we went on a boating trip at Millstatter See, for one hour (complete tour is 2 hour) and we enjoyed it. We boarded at Millstatt boat station. We left our car close to the boat station at the parking which was free of charge.
The ship arrived according to timetable. The staff of the boat were very helpful. We took coffie and it was good and with reasonable price. The trip was very nice and relaxing. The view from the boat to the Mountains is priceless. After it we took a short walk in the city park and old town. Very nice place for visit, I recommend it.

We like lakes, and we went to many lakes in Italy, this is one of the best! The lake is small , but extremely beautiful! I cannot describe hw beautiful it is with my limited wordings.
The lake changes colours according to the weather, we went there 2 times, one day it was cloudy, one day it was sunny.. the colours were different, but Bothe were glorious!
This lake was very quiet, you may walking around it, or bicycling , or hiking around the mountain there.
Parking was not enough, so recommended to go earlier.
There was a hotel there with restaurant , the view was excellent, and food was good too! and also a kiosk there , you may buy a coffee and relax there for half day!
