I visited here in March 2018 for the national convention of Tarkenton Financial. The visit was much more memorable with Fran Tarkenton (HOF 1986) accompanying us through the museum reminiscing about various players who he personally knew or had known.Awesome to hear that you had a memorable visit! Something you will definitely remember since it was unique to tour with a Hall of Famer. We hope to have you make a return trip in the near future.

These cars are stunning, just plain stunning. You should not miss this if you love old cars. There are many period signs and other memorabilia as well, it all adds to the ambiance of the museum.

Absolutely stunning theater. Nicely restored, it offers a grand movie experience. From the organ to the colored lights, to the clouds, everything is just so beautiful. Do not miss an opportunity to see a classic movie at this theater. With so many restaurants nearby, it makes for a great date night!

everyone comes to canton for the hall of fame. the presidents tomb and museum should not be missed. i love the street upstairs a glimpse into the past.n some of the displays could use a little updating but a greast place for kids to learn

This site consists of the Library [in a restored bank building] and an associated restored historic home about a block South, separated by a parking garage, a private parking lot, and a little park. As a previous reviewer pointed out, you need reservations for the tour of the historic home associated with this site, since only a small group can be accommodated at each tour. We visited on a weekday and called ahead that morning. The home tour was interesting, and the costumed tour guide was pleasant and knowledgeable. I would have liked a bit more time to look carefully at the exhibits, however. I left with an interest in learning more about Ida McKinley, who was quite a remarkable woman for her time.
During our visit, the Library's special exhibit was inaugural ball gowns. All were reproductions, of course--the originals are in the Smithsonian. I think it would have been more enjoyable if the gowns had been labeled with the names or at least numbered and keyed to the informational posters, so a visitor wouldn't need to dart back and forth to figure out which was which. There's also an informational video. I saw bookshelves upstairs but didn't investigate.
TIP: When you call ahead for your tour time, be sure to get the entry code for the private [free] parking lot. Also, it's a bit tricky to find if you don't know that there are similar addresses on both South and North Market Street. This site is on the right [West] side of the street going South. This is not a site that I'd really recommend for children under 5th grade or so.

Many people did not know about these advantages for Friday evenings. I first heard about it from reading signs and newspaper articles in the two local newspapers. Not until recently was there news about the Canton art museum in other museums. There is now a culturally vibrant downtown that started I believe with the growing reputation of the art museum. Five or six colleges also have contributed much to this emerging cultural arts district. I saw it coming but I was not there when it started. I tried it out many years ago in part to see if I could find my way to Canton without getting lost. Parking was not easy to find. Wandering through streets brought me close to the places that I like to visit like the art museum. I was not that knowledgeable about downtown Canton I used to go close to the down town areas last century when Amtrack trains picked up and left off passengers, but that was a different time for a different purpose. In those same years I did visit the Greek festival in the fall. But that was a different time for a different purpose. Libraries and art museums and musical arts plaza did attract me. I did like the art district for music, performances and visual arts. I wish that they had a film festival. I think that you have to be a festival type person to benefit from spending time there. I went there not too many years ago long before the range of calendar dates suitable for indicating the time of my visit were made available for completing this review. I was always interested in knowing how many colleges and universities served this city just as an indication of the area's
intellectual life. Fewer then than now. Keep in mind the history of Cantons intellectual life to know that it was for many years a blue collar town with industrial workers the mainstay of the economy - like up to now and until not too long ago or just recently when many young people started to attend college. This trend in higher education has really contributed much to the art district being a solid part of downtown life now.

For any type of religious articles, everyone I know comes here. The store is clean and spacious with everything displayed just so. I think they have everything - including some great coffee that benefits monks. Be sure to spend some time in the chapel; just a wonderful quiet place to de-stress and give praise to God.

I had visited this place several times in the past and was disappointed this time. Instead of a docent telling stories about individual first ladies with some of their items on display nearby, all of the REPLICAS of a dress they had worn were encased in small cases in lobby where one purchased the admittance fee. Information about these was on a wall but was difficult to relate to the dresses. A mere name under the dress would have been a simple and much more informative way of telling one whose dress it was. An employee did come over and help us sort out which lady wore which dress but this was a very dull way of presenting the ladies. The earlier display was much more interesting. When questioned I was told that grants had led to a focus on Ida Saxton McKinley and her home. Wonderful but don't bill this as all the presidential wives.

The Canton Art Museum is a small part of an arts complex, but they do an excellent job with their special exhibits, including the current show "Animals in Art". I drive down from Akron once or twice a year when one of their special shows piques my interest. If you see all the museum's galleries, you could be out in just over an hour or so. Parking is free, you can get discount admissions on Groupon and the gift shop has a nice little selection.
