Chuchango Tenerife

A GUIDED RAMBLING through old tracks crossing typical canariens villages. among beautiful nature, but with cultural and ethnographic interest too, enjoying of a quality local food tasting and ending up with a fantastic time in a jacuzzi or sauna.

I did this walk on Fri Mar 21st 2014, it was a really good experience, plenty of information about the local countryside, a nice easy walk with wonderful scenery which finished with cheese and wine at the top of a mountain. When the walk finished, we were brought to a local town for a one hour visit to a spa where we swam, took a sauna and jacuzzi. Perfect way to finish the day :)) Would thoroughly recommend it.
Anthony and his wife Julia are very friendly and professional. There were six people in total on the tour, four spoke French and myself and my sister in law spoke English so Anthony guided us on the walk and his wife guided the French speaking visitors.

Lovely square with statues of city rulers with their backs to the sea and the beautiful, majestic basilica. If the weather is good, the views are fascinating. When we went there, there only were 8 statues (instead of promoted 9). And I was massively dissapointed as it was not allowed to go up in the bell tower to have a nice view of the square. However, we walked up some narrow streets and had maybe a better view than we would have had from the tower ;-)

The beach front along the Promenade of Candelaria has some very nice spots to sun bath and relax behind little man made coves, there are some timber decking platforms on the beach which provide a nice alternative to lying on the black sand of Tenerife.

The cave was used since aboriginal times since about 6th century BC. It was used by the Guanches as a place for the milking the cattle.
The cave is at the back of the Candelaria Basilica, it is hidden by a small building. It is 14 meters long and 6 wide. The building is in Canarian traditional architecture, is square and about ten meters high, with an Arab tile roof. The interior ceiling is made of wood.
In the main altar is a replica in bronze of the original image of the Virgin of Candelaria.
There are lovely views from the front of the cave of the Candelaria Basilica and the coast.
