This is a magnificent museum. It takes you through the ages of the regiments, and tells the story of the ordinary soldier as well as the famous. Exhibits and information are many and varied, and tbh, I didn't quite get it all in, but as I paid I can go back anytime in the next year.

Peel Tower

We enjoyed our walk to the Tower even though it was not open. We were told in the week that it would be open but when we got there the white flag that flies when open was not flying. This is run by volunteers so no grumbling allowed!
It was a good walk, not overly strenuous but a bit boggy if you went off the gravel path.
The views are amazing.
Wrap up warm and take refreshments.

It's title says it's just a parish church. But to be honest, I've seen cathedrals that don't have the same as this place. It's a beautiful church, well maintained and is a credit to the town, but once inside. Decorative, with wonderful stonework and carvings, well worth visiting.

Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary

Reviewed By rachxx1xx - Lancashire, UK

I visited Bleakholt for the first time last Monday and have been back twice since! There are all different kinds of animals, horses, ponies, donkeys, guineas, goats, rabbits, chickens which have been rescued and have a home for life at the sanctuary and the dogs and cats which can be adopted.
You can register to be a dog walker on a volunteer basis, make sure to take your driving license/proof of address. You have a brief chat with one of the staff members (this is at set times of day so maybe ring ahead to check), hand over your car key and off you go. Walking is between 10-3 every day. The dogs are happy to get out of their pens and the scenery around the sanctuary is beautiful so it's a win win for everyone. They assign dogs based on their temperament so if you are with children you get a 'green' dog, blue and amber dogs are a little more excitable!
There is a bookshop, pet supply shop and cafe (open weekends and bank holiday) which is very reasonable for toasties, soup, pies, homemade cakes and various beverages. There is indoor or outdoor Seating. Toilets are available too. Parking is free.
A wonderful place to spend an afternoon, make sure to buy something or donate towards the care of these lovely animals.
