Eldon Russell Park

I drove through the park in my car as the weather was sunny and clear. I got out a few times to take closer looks at things that caught my eye. I did hike a trail or two and remarked to myself what a great place to preserve and some people were smart enough to save this space from development. Nature was alive and thriving here. i wished I lived closer to Eldon Russell Park so I could enjoy it more often. There is so much to see there.

Lucia S. Nash Preserve

This nature preserve only opened this year and my wife and I finally got a chance to visit it. Fantastic old growth forest and wetland, one of the most pristine in Northeast Ohio. Gravel road to get to it, but well maintained. Trails are all well maintained and well marked. Trails are gravel or dirt, but no hills. Boardwalk out to beautiful Snow Lake. My only precautions are that there are no bathrooms or drinking water, and bug spray is probably a good idea.

Hastings Dairy is a family owned farm located in Northeast Ohio 40 miles east of Cleveland. We offer group tours, school tours, birthday parties and have special events during our season from April to October. Experience a dairy adventure on our farm!

The dairy is no longer a tourist destination with tours, but the cheese selection is excellent and of course, fresh milk that cannot be beat! White milk & chocolate are always on the menu, then a sign was posted with rotating flavors. Self serve next to the cooler, which I didn’t notice until the end. The owner was very gracious. Google maps is about 1/3 of a mile off, so watch for the sign.

So glad we made a reservation for a sleigh ride the day after Christmas! The gift shop had such lovely items in a range of prices. I love the espresso scented candle in the big, thick decorative jar. There was a fire outside with marshmallows and roasting sticks, hot chocolate and little treats. Woody, the dog was the perfect welcoming mascot. The horses were magnificent. We had a wonderful time on our ride through the woods.

We had a really nice time on our tour. We couldn't see everything that the village had to offer in the time we had for the tour, so our tour guide let us pick which building we wanted to see. We learned quite a few things that we didn't know from other tours. Be sure to check out the times and open dates as they are only open at certain times. There are picnic tables under a shelter to use.

Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve

Reviewed By Bobo185 - Chardon, United States

I went to The Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve on a Thursday afternoon in early October. There is a trail to Lake Kelso and a blind for looking at waterbirds. There none present on this day, but during the peak migration I like to bring my scope here and can usually find some interesting migrants. My goal was to get in a brisk walk so I walked over to the lake first and then across the street for that loop. This is easy to miss if you do not know it was there. The trail starts off fairly flat and is mowed grass. The meadow is large and the trail loops through it. The second part of the trail is in the woods and is a dirt trail with roots exposed. It is a nice walk but is a little rough. With the leaves falling it was hard to tell where the path went sometimes. There is an option to skip this part and return through the meadow, but it is my favorite part. The whole walk was about 2 miles round trip and was nearly flat. I only saw one person the entire time. I will be coming here more…it will be a great place to see the fall colors. They were just starting to turn (October 8th)
