Denoix

Reviewed By Anuj_Mithani - Mumbai, India

We loved the charming town of Brive, and the Denoix distillery is an absolute must-visit. With guided tours only offered in Jul/Aug, we were free to wander around the premises, marvelling at the cauldrons and the wall with all their liqueurs on display.
Free tastings were offered - we tasted their signature product l’eau de noix (walnut liqueur, which we also bought), as also some very unique variants like coriander and fennel. They also make the unique moutarde violette de Brive (purple mustard made with grape must).
We particularly enjoyed our chat with the friendly lady owner, who is very passionate and enthusiastic about the family business (the family has owned this since back in the 1800s).

Wizz'titi

We recently visited Wizztiti whilst on holiday. It was amazing! There was 5 adults aged between 28 and 53 and We visited with young children aged 7, 8 and 11. Wizztiti was fun for all of us! Pierre was lovely and supported us all day, I was very scared of heights and he made me relax and feel able to take part in all the activities! Pierre was also very good with the children and so were the other staff! This trip made our holiday and I definately recommend it! (Also, sorry this review is written in English, we have poor French language skills, but the staff tried very hard to communicate with us in English and made us feel very welcome in France!)

Les Jardins de Colette

"Les Jardins de Colette", is a 5 ha contemporary flower garden set near the Château de Castel-Novel in the town of Varetz, which was once home to the famous author Colette. A thematic park, really accessible, which evokes six regions of France where Colette lived. A "botanical trip" in Colette's footsteps from her native Bugundy through Franche Comté, Brittany...to finish in the Gardens oh the Palais Royal in Paris. A giant maze covering 5000m² and giant games all along the way.

You cannot fault the dedication and enthusiasm of the staff here. I first came in 2007 just after the Gardens had opened, and it was very pleasant and relaxing then. Since that visit, the garden itself has developed, and now puts on an interesting display that makes it a relaxing place to visit.

Gouffre de la Fage

The Gouffre de la Fage opens at the heart of nature, in a large underbrush, in the town of Noailles, at 8 km south from Brive, in Corrèze, at the border of the departemeents of Lot and Dordogne. It offers many aspects to its visitors: richness and density of concretions, paleontological site, and colony of bats.

This 'gouffre' seems much less well publicised than most in this part of France. Not sure why, it was splendid. Fascinating, complex calcite formations, beautifully lit to enhance natural beauty not to provide artificial lighting effects. The guide spoke very clear french so I was able to follow much of what he said and I'm far from bi-lingual.

Abbaye d'Aubazines

Reviewed By FREDERICK S - BURY ST EDMUNDS

This canal used to supply the Abbey of Aubazine with water and has recently been restored with an adjoining footpath. From a nearby car park the one and a half hour return walk along the canal is absolutely beautiful with much dramatic scenery. It is closed to cyclists and because of sheer drops is not suitable for children or wheelchairs, though very small children can be carried along the hairy bits. Otherwise it is safe enough for any sensible adult used to hill walking. You will not be disappointed by the many view points. The path itself is mostly level as it follows the water course. I would recommeng as a 'must do' if in the vicinity.

Musee Labenche

Reviewed By TripAv - London, United Kingdom

Museum content was quite good, but the staff in the main museum area need an attitude transplant or possibly just a good slapping - very grumpy and unwelcoming. Maybe they were bored as are there so many of them for such a quiet museum, and as it was Friday afternoon and they wanted to get home for the weekend? By contrast the lady working in the special temporary exhibition room could not have been friendlier!
