Belmont is a small suburban city in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States, located about 15 miles (24 km) west of uptown Charlotte and 9 miles (14 km) east of Gastonia. The population was 10,076 at the 2010 census. Once known as Garibaldi Station, the name change for Belmont is disputed. Some say it was named for a prominent New York banker - August Belmont. Others contend the Pope ordered the abbot of the monastery to change the name since he would not tolerate an abbey in a place that bore the Garibaldi name. The abbot could see Crowder's mountain from the property and named the town Belmont - "beautiful mountain". Belmont is home to Belmont Abbey College.

We had an awesome time! I went with my husband and some friends to do the 5:00 pm tour. It was really interesting to learn about how the owners started the business and all the chemistry behind the making of the delicious rum! I give them 5 stars for presentation, content, and rum tasting! Would highly recommend a visit to this local gem and for any local or tourists looking for a fun activity in the area! The owners are amazing people with a passion for the business!

My first visit to the Schiele Museum provided a most pleasant surprise. The museum, although small, is packed with interesting exhibits that are beautifully presented and well documented. The dinosaur exhibit featured smaller species, and the models appeared to be realistic and set in suitable habitats. The animals were obviously made by excellent taxidermists and were also set in realistic, interesting habitats. Native American objects and models were respectful of their cultures and good teaching tools. Because it was pouring rain, we were not able to explore the trail and outside exhibits, but we'll go back for those. Also, our tour group was limited in time, so we did not see the planetarium show, another reason to return.

Wonderful holiday outing between Christmas and New Years with the family (grandparent, young kids). Excellent size (not overwhelming). Friendly staff. Fun "passport" stations for kids. Trains in orchid building particularly magical (seasonal display). We live in Roanoke, VA, and currently have an annual membership we're enjoying despite the drive. Sincerely doing a good job attracting new audiences.

I spent my childhood in Gastonia and thought I was, fairly, knowledgeable about the history of the area. After visiting Allen Milligan's Pictorial History Museum, I realized I knew hardly anything of area.
Allen adds, greatly, to the museum experience with his vast knowledge of Gaston and surrounding counties. His passion and energy will amaze you. Listening to Allen tell stories describing the photos is almost hypnotic.
The photographs he has collected and processed is unimaginable. Thousands8 are categorized by area and subject makes for easy viewing and can be purchased.
The museum is housed in a quaint old house on Catawba Ave in Belmont. If you have trouble finding it, anyone in Belmont can give directions.
The museum is free to all and you can make donations if you desire.

This is a fabulous little one street town. Such character and so pleasant to visit! Several delicious restaurants, ice cream parlors, coffee shops, a yoga studio, a day spa, outdoor eating venues, a rooftop bar with nightly music, a beautiful downtown park. I truly enjoyed my visit, and the best thing was my friends' condo was within walking distance, so we enjoyed every evening in Belmont.

Plan to spend several hours perusing the endless variety of collectibles and antiques! The aisles are open for ease in "window shopping". Everything is presented nicely and priced reasonably...we took two trips to the car with our treasures!

Stowe park is in the heart of downtown Belmont. There is a nice play area, picnic tables, covered shelter, a fountain, and it sits beside the railroad tracks. A great spot to watch trains! The playground is shaded in the afternoons, but gets a lot of sun in the morning.
The park seems clean & well maintained overall.
There are bathrooms & a snack bar (open on weekends). The park is within easy walking distance to restaurants.
Davis park is located close by & is very nice as well, it offers more shade over the play area than Stowe park.

This is a good place to take someone with a stroller if you don't want harsher terrain. Playground nice for children. Plan to walk across bridge to downtown Cramerton for refreshments
This is not for those looking for a more strenuous walk, but a leisurely stroll.
