This winery used to be a golf course and you can tell with the open, beautiful green space. The tasting room had friendly service and the wine was very good. Also looks like a good place for weddings.

Peddlers Market Antiques & Collectibles

Reviewed By cheryl h - Durham, North Carolina

This is just the type of place we love finding. There were a lot of collectibles (what we mainly look for), antiques, vintage, toys, advertising, strange and unique items, primitives, glassware, vintage clothes, furniture, plates, tools and anything else you could possible be looking for. They also have free coffee which tasted great on this unusually cold November day.

The place was very well organized and easy to get around which made it a real pleasure. My brother collects Popeye and I found a music box (it didn't work but that didn't matter because it was such a great looking piece) to give him at christmas. The man who had that booth just happened to be in the store and we spent about 1/2 hour just talking and kidding around with him and having some great laughs. We really enjoyed meeting him. And by the way, my brother loved the music box and immediately put it up on the shelf with other popeye items (it looks awesome sitting up there too).

If we are ever in the area again this will be one of the very first places we plan on visiting. I just hope the same great people are there. Happy holidays guys...all of you were great.

Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and Youth Museum

As the focal points of Beckley’s lovely New River Park, the Exhibition Coal Mine, the Rahall Company Store, Mine Museum and the Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia draw thousands of people to the area annually. The unique underground mine, the recreated coal camp, the Youth Museum and the Mountain Homestead are surrounded by inviting lawns, colorful flowers, picnic areas, an imposing coal miner statue and a whimsical 20 ft. “Peace Totem. At the Exhibition Coal Mine, one can ride through the dark passages of a vintage coal mine. The guides are veteran miners and provide firsthand accounts of the daily responsibilities and tasks of past and present day miners. In addition to the Mine, one can tour the Mine Museum and the period coal camp situated throughout the grounds. Lovingly restored, the Coal Company House, Superintendent’s Home, Pemberton Coal Camp Church, and the Helen Coal Camp School, give visitors a true representation of early 20th century coal camp life. Adjacent to the Exhibition Mine, the Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia is open to the public year round. The central exhibit area features an average of three different interactive exhibits yearly. Group tours include a visit to the Museum’s Planetarium. Behind the Museum’s main building, stands the Mountain Homestead. Developed to enrich history studies, guides tell the stirring story West Virginian’s hearty pioneer settlers as they interpret the restored log cabin, one room schoolhouse, barn, weaver’s shed, general store, moonshine still and blacksmith shop.

We found this place on the WV state website and thought it would be a neat place to stop on our way to PA. The staff was VERY friendly and helpful. The kids loved riding on the mine cart & learning how hard it was to mine coal and the trial & tribulation they encountered back in the late 1800's through the early 1900's in the coal industry. Our guide was AWESOME and very energetic, he kept us intrigued the whole time. Then next door is a fun kids museum. A MUST SEE! Enjoy!

We have been to Tamarack several times over the years as we are traveling the West Virginia Turnpike. It is a very nice respite from your travels; you can do it justice in about an hour. It has reasonably priced dining; we prefer the cafeteria style option, with a variety of choices that you can see before you order. The West Virginia crafts are outstanding and most reasonable; on this trip we selected a handmade basket purse, beautifully crafted by a local artist, for only forty dollars. There are jams, candies, woodwork ... the full array. There is also an art gallery which changes selections; this time it was West Virginia natural scenes and very well done. The wait staff in the shops and cafeteria are efficient and courteous.

This is a creative and unique putt-putt that is built into a hill. The place also has a rock wall and coffee shop. The rock wall was challenging and my older son, who I'm convinced is part spider-monkey, really enjoyed all the different climbs and felt challenged enough. My younger son, who isn't such a climber was still able to successfully climb, so there are levels for everyone. Even old mom (me) climbed an easier level and made it. After we climbed, we went out to the putt-putt and got a kick out of the different designs showcasing local history. I had a delicious cup of coffee to top it all off.

Its in uptown Beckley..which seriously needs a comeback to make it alive again. Most of the buildings there need help..this place is kinda cool and a lil quirky. Antiques and a few custom pieces throughout the store...nothing that would really make one come back as a regular...but if your in uptown you can kill a few minutes looking around.

Beckley Antique Mall

Reviewed By cheryl h - Durham, North Carolina

This place had wide aisles, the booths were well organized and they had a great variety. We were greeted as we walked in the door with a big hello and they asked if we were looking for anything specific. We weren't and they told us to just let them know if we needed any help. This may not seem like much since it's something one would expect but we have been to many antique stores that are not friendly and some have been downright rude We saw some unique items we have not seen before and left with a few small items we didn't even know we needed. If you are in the area you should check it out.
