Old Town of Durbuy

Plenty of parking lots to choose from, even a shuttle bus from one of them to take you right into town. We spent a couple of hours enjoying the Topiary Garden which was beautiful, followed by a wander through the lovely cobbled streets with beautiful shops and delightful restaurants. You can do a self guided walking tour through the town. Perfect for a day trip, longer if you want to take advantage of the many local outdoor activities.

Le Labyrinthe de Barvaux-Durbuy

This theme park is a giant labyrinth of maize, located in a village next Durbuy « the smallest town in the world». Since then, every summer, the design of the Labyrinth and animations of actors change en fonction a new topic. Shows, riddles and spells of laughter will be present in all the alleyways, in which some 65 000 visitors will have come to play the game of being lost.

This is not to be missed for children and adults alike. Finding your way through acres of corn stalks high as a man is really entertaining. There are quizzes to help you find your way (English included) + little shows featuring live Peter Pan characters for the children.
Be ready to spend at minimum 2 hours in the maze. There is a snack bar at the center, but you can bring your own food and drink. Comfortable shoes are recommended. No heels or you'll sink into the wood chips covering the ground. Outside the maze area, there are smaller mazes, one made of doors that you need to push. An additional educational area features a small maze of wild flowers.

Outlive Experience

Reviewed By TravellerV72 - Weert, The Netherlands

We gaan abseilen.

The Megaliths House welcomes visitors who want to know more about them before they explore the Wéris area and its famous site of dolmens and megaliths. The megalithic site of Wéris is made up of 2 dolmens and about 30 menhirs, dated from the 3rd millennium BC. At the Megaliths House can you find a museum dedicated to Megalithism and the daily life of the Neolithic farmers-livestock owners. A shop offers books, brochures, maps for walking, postcards and souvenirs. In the cafeteria, with a Terrace and snacks, you can try the Dolmenius local beer.

People are friendly in this 'maison': a small museum/shop/coffeeplace. Please do not have high expectations of this museum. I love the megaliths, and that's why I came here. I took some coffee, saw the museum, looked for books in my language (Dutch) could not find them, saw a bunch of non related new age stuff, could not understand why, forgave them, went on my way. Have a coffee here, talk to the nice volunteers, then go to the megaliths.

It was interesting but not exciting to see a functioning goat cheese farm. We were hoping to get a tour (it says by appointment), but there were very few staff members around to ask. You can walk through a few parts of the farm on your own. We saw the goats getting milked. There is a small shop, with products from the farm and a few other local things. They also sold goat's milk ice cream, which I wish I had been hungry enough to try. There is a quick video in the shop showing how they make the cheese.

This is a nice place for families and groups of friends to go for a drink, something to eat or do some activities (netball, jeu de boule, canooing, birdshow).
Prices are reasonable. Service is good however on a very sunny day it can be quite busy so you might have to wait a bit.
Food is worth the wait though!
In the area you can walk, see ruins of a castle and for kids there is an extensive, save playground.
Restaurant closes around 18.00 - 19.00 dependance on the time of the year.

It boasts an impressive underground cliff on the river.
But for people who would already have visited caves in Slovenia, it is nothing really spectacular, and most of the rooms and formations are just average.
Still: congratulations to the enthusiastic workers who have set up the catwalks, it must have been a major work.
You cannot walk by yourself, so must be part of a group. The guide is impressive tri-lingual and friendly, so he repeats 3 times the same story (in 3 different languages). I see that many people like this, but we find it too long waiting. You could easily visit this cave in 30 minutes, it is not worth one and half hour. Very sorry to say so, I guess it comes from our experience visiting more impressive caves in other countries.

Tortuga Bar

During our weekend in Durbuy, we made a point of visiting this great place. The bar is decorated like a real pirate ship, floor-to-ceiling! Take your time to take it all in: the better you look, the more you see! The staff is extraordinarily friendly and the music immediately sets the mood for a chat and a drink. I was not blown away by the rum, as it was mostly basic rum with very sweet syrups added to it. Not a place for rum-lovers, but the perfect place to relax after a long day.
We were a rather large group and the bar is pretty small, so we had to split up to sit down, so be prepared if you want to come here with your whole squad ;-)

We'll definitely come back!
