October 15, 2017 Franklyn Hardiman

Hugging the Swiss border, this stylish resort gets over 26 feet of snow each winter. Villages des Enfants, for kids and young teens, is the perfect place for learning. Softski is for adult newcomers or those who've been away for a while, while The Stash is Europe's first giant ecological snowboard park.

I have used Evolution 2 for both group and private lessons for the last 4 years. I had used other providers in Avoriaz but none compare to the excellent service by the admin team and the experience and knowledge from the instructors. Their English is superb and all have a really good sense of humour which makes the lesson flyby. This year due to high winds the resort was closed for one day but our lessons were soon rescheduled for the following day with no fuss and just one phone call. I can’t recommend the instructors highly enough, their ability to be able to foresee your “loss of control” and put themselves in a position to catch, stop or help you is a true art!! Some of my family have been very young children, the instructors are all fantastic in encouraging young children and helping them gain confidence quickly. Would never consider using any other provider!!

I was a beginner skier and went for a week of skiing in Morzine. I decided to do the week of morning lessons with ESF and they were brilliant value for money, incredibly well organised, and the instructors were incredibly capable and helpful.
I paid 290 euros for 5 x morning lessons and this included a lift pass for the whole of Morzine/Les Gets. This means each lesson cost 30-40 euros each which is fantastic value for money. On the last day the instructors took us to a stop for wine and cheese, before giving us our certificates. I highly recommend using ESF!

I have been going for 30 years to Avoriaz and am always amazed about the unequal quality service the Tourist Office gives. Either the information is wrong, or they don't know. Not what one would expect from such a beautiful ski resort as Avoriaz is.
The hostesses must lack proper training.
This being said, it also depends on which hostess you fall on. Sometimes she goes out of her way to help.

Easy access from the Morzine / Avoriaz road with abundant parking. Fresh full milk, cheese- Tomme, all excellent. No alcoholic drinks but soft drinks and a cheese platter for lunch make a pleasant change from normal skiing meals.

Village des Enfants

Before I rant please be aware that I've been skiing for nearly 35 years, so I know what to expect.
I'd avoid les enfant at all costs. It's a Shambles, the instructors are rude, inconsiderate and potentially negligent. I didn't see a single child laugh or have fun during the lessons that I watched. I also noticed that out on the mountain the instructors seemed to just ski around rather than teach the kids. I also saw one small kid on her own because she'd fallen behind the group. I watched to make sure she caught up but the instructor barely seemed to notice. If that was my kid I wouldn't reported it.
When we arrived for the first day, no one seemed to know where we should go and everyone ignored us. Once I did manage to get someone to help, they didn't assess my kid's ability or even make him feel welcome. It took several attempts before I could get him in the class despite the fact that at least 20 instructors were standing right by us. I repeatably tried to engage anyone who could help us but I either got looked at blankly or told to wait.
Because they didn't assess my kid's ability, they put him straight onto a button lift with no explanation of how to use it. He's never used one before (only a chairlift) and they didn't even try to talk to him in English. He said later he was really scared because no one told him how, or where to get off.
They showed no compassion, child management or consideration for anyone. Also, the pictures on the website seem misleading. It shows a wonderful looking large ski play area. This isn't the case, the first area is pretty small really and the longer slope has some stuff on it but not much in comparison to other places I've been.
In my opinion, if you want to book lessons, try the other people in Avoriaz.

Definitely something worth trying, they start you off going round the course under the lifts and then off through the trees, its not difficult and you don't need any previous experience. The only pain is getting there by road from Morzine

Freedom2 Ski is a ski school based in Avoriaz in the French alps. This will be our 14th Winter in business. We have an excellent reputation for our private and group lessons. All instructors hold the Basi level 4 diploma & Full French Equivalence. We are all passionate about meeting your skiing goals. Patience, professionalism & care are a big part of our ethos, from the emails to the mountain.

Following a very bad experience in another Avoriaz school, we were very lucky to find a space for our boys at Freedom2ski at such short notice during half term. When we got through to Pete he spoke to us at length to assess the level of our kids, to ensure they would be in the right group. Upon arrival, the level of organisation and professionalism demonstrated was impressive. Within minutes Dave (super friendly instructor) was ensuring the safety of the helmets etc, and in no time the boys were off to the best and safest experience, in a small group (7). During the 3+ hours, Dave rotated the kids to ensure each and everyone received the same amount of focus. We have seen many schools in many countries - Freedom2ski has an exceptional standard. Highly recommended.
