Ellora Caves

Spectacular rock cut caves and elaborate sculptures of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain faiths are over 10 centuries old.

Reviewed By DiFlies - Lyndhurst, United Kingdom

Auramabad is about 7 hours by train from Mumbai, then you can take a taxi to Ellora caves. There is a great deal to see, as there are over 30 temples (Buddhist, Hindu and Jain) some better preserved and more elaborate than others. There are a lot of steps and uneven floors and ground, but the effort is more than worthwhile as the carvings are magnificent. It is incredible to see the workmanship in temples that are over a thousand years old. Cave 16 is perhaps the most admired, but don't miss cave 10 with its amazing carved roof and huge buddha

Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga Temple

Reviewed By verbartic - Mumbai, India

The temple is very beautiful in terms of architecture. It was rebuilt and revived by Ahilyabai Holkar. I went two days before Mahashivratri. There was a long queue which moves quite fast. Offerings of flowers and bilva Patra are available outside the temple.
No camera or mobile or leather is allowed inside the temple. Men have to remove their upper clothes to seek darshan, like in most South indian shiva temples.
The priests are looters. They charge Rs 550 per person for a panchamrut Abhishek which should involve 5 items....ghee, water, sugar, milk ...only this was given and the priest was more interested in getting more people to conduct the abhishek at the same time.
After that he was asking for dakshina, which I found ridiculous and refused to give. Theres no Pooja or Archana for Rs 100. The temple didn't issue a receipt of Rs 551 to me for the Pooja done.
I have visited quite a few temples and all of them issue receipts for whatever sevas u do, obviously the priests are looters.
I suggest u carry your own panchamrut and do the linga Abhishek if interested.
The priests are a spoiler.
The temple itself is nice and has a calming effect.

Bhadra Maruti

Reviewed By sudhibhushan - Bangalore

Khuldabad Bhadra Maruti Temple is a temple dedicated to Hanuman ji. This temple is located at Khuldabad, near Aurangabad around four kilometers from the Ellora caves.
The main attraction of this temple is that the idol of Lord Hanuman is in a reclining posture. The devotees could go around the idol and have darshan from all the sides.
Photography is not allowed in this temple.
The approach road to the temple is very poorly managed and filthy. Hope the temple authorities would take steps to improve this.

Another fabulously beautiful site. The exterior alone was so pretty, both the building and the setting. This huge temple is completely carved of marble.
