This is a huge facility dedicated to promoting Konnyaku (yam gelitan cake). You can view a faux (but working) konnyaku factory. There's a free konnyaku cafeteria with 10 or so different types of konnyaku. I ate a whole tray of the stuff and never wanted to eat konnyaku again. It's worth a visit if you're passing by. Went with a friend's 3 year old daughter and she loved it.

I visited Gunma natural history museum with our good friends and it was an interesting visit. I got an English paper describing the exhibits, but it wasn't necessary as my friend explained and translated everything I wanted to know. The children liked the place a lot but it is nice place for adults also. Some artifacts have been found in Gunma area.
For me the most interesting was to see the animals and flowers in Japan.

This is a nice set in a picturesque valley. Once the locomotive depot on the mountainous line to Nagano, it has a strong focus on diesel locomotives. Every cab on every train on display is accessible, with even a couple featuring simulated controls linked to a computer display. There is a full size scenic line travels from the park into the Mountains a short distance, a narrow gauge stream train runs around the park, while a miniature railway loops around the upper level of the park. There are rides for children of various age groups while adults can reserve lessons and instructions on how to drive a full size mainline locomotive. Essentially this place is good for young or old, families or solo travelers, railfans or not.

Haruna Shrine is nestled in the Mountains. Unfortunately we visited in January and it was very crowded. There were lines of cars from both roads leading into the shrine and very little parking. They were sending 5 people at a time to pray because there was even a line up to the shrine itself. However, the atmosphere remained peaceful and I left with good fortune.

We parked down below and walked up to the main bridge. It was awesome from the first time we saw it. Because it was the end of December, there were icy spots, so we were careful. The tunnels were interesting to walk through and very level. I realized that the reason there were so many train tunnels was because of the attempt to make the grade of the railway as gentle as possible, so it is not a difficult walk at all. There were icicles hanging from the ceiling of the tunnels, which was interesting and fun to play with. Parking was a little bit of a hassle, with ice on the sidewalk on the way down, so we parked at the bottom at the side of the road. I also realized that it is a very long hiking trail. We walked only about a kilometer, but it actually begins way down the line at a lake and could take a few hours if you wanted to do the whole trail, with about a dozen tunnels. It is cool, worth checking out and a good way to see the workmanship that went into building such a railway. Also, good for Gunma Prefecture for keeping it as it is and allowing people to use it for recreation. Enjoy!

I'm not an animal lover.
Actually I don't like them.
But, this park amazed me by their great attractions.
Lions, tigers, and many others are just 30cm away.
How can't you be amazed.
Other attractions allow you to feed animals including lions and tigers.
You can experience the difference of the style of the lions and tigers eat flesh...

I thought it was a bit expensive at the entrance, but pretty much satisfied at the end.

Our very first night/trip on a campervan. So were having lots of question about sleeping in a carpark in Japan. Well, first, we arrive in the road station after sundown, so was not about to see clearly what we drive by. The toilet is kept cleaned, no insects crawling around. No proper bathing facility but we make do with the handicapped toilet. The roadstation is also quite full as the restaurant at the road station was still opened. There were pizzas sellings and some one had a small pool for children to fish stuffs out of it.

This is a 25 min ride from Takasaki train station Bus No. 8 from the west exit (200 Yen per person each way). I posted a picture of the information (includes outbound and return bus times) that I received from the tourist information which is right across from the exit from the station.
So I had planned to see 3 things in Takasaki with my 5 year old. We arrived by train but this was the only thing we did. The place is huge, its more than just a large statue which I believed ( see some pics of the maps of the area). The bus is easy to find and take and drops you off right by the statue. If you cant read Japanese dont worry the bus's I traveled on displayed the names of the next bus stop. Just match the first character of the bus stop on the English leaflet you get from tourist information to that displayed and your set. And probably your not the only one going here.
Well worth the entrance fee up the statue (300 yen) with some great views from the top. After seeing the statue theres lots of small little shops that sells drinks, small things to eat as well as a lot of interesting articles. Given my limited time I didnt really get to see much else of the area but how easy, cheap and quick to get to from the train station I plan to be back with the whole family next time.

When we arrived, the queue was already there. Lots of local travellers. Drove around as we noticed that the parking nearby was expensive. Anyway, later we spend about 500 yen for 2.5hrs parking. As we didn't really understand what that fellow was trying to tell us (shopowner or residents were opening up their shop front to allow visitors to park at a cost). Anyway we rented a audio guide as well since there was nothing written in English and no English guide as well. Was not sure where we should even head first... got into the exhibition area first before we walk around. I think there was a few stop which is available in the audio but not on actual ground so wasn't even sure where it was...mainly views of the building from outside and you can only take a walk inside the factory building where you see the rows of machinery.

on the nakaesendo trail between Karuizawa and Yokokawa is the Usui-Toge Pass. The layers of Mountains viewed from the pass are breathtaking and the forest between the two towns are a must see. The walk from Kuruizawa is easy, the whole walk between the two towns was 5 hours but not strenuous.
