Alamogordo /ˌæləməˈɡɔːrdoʊ/ is the seat of Otero County, New Mexico, United States. A city in the Tularosa Basin of the Chihuahuan Desert, it is bordered on the east by the Sacramento Mountains and to the west by Holloman Air Force Base. The population was 30,403 as of the 2010 census. Alamogordo is known for its connection with the Trinity test, the first explosion of an atomic bomb.

I've been to Great Sand Dunes and other than size White Sands has it beat hands down for it's scenic beauty and geologic interest. We didn't have time to do it justice, going only on the 1 mile nature walk. With more time we would have driven the full hour loop road and stopped at a couple of other locations, probably done the 5 mile loop hike. Still, what we saw was quite impressive.

The tour takes about forty-five minutes. You will visit the field, the processing plant, the salting and roasting facility, as well as our packaging and shipping departments. This place is a true monument to the development of the USA missile programs of the past century. From the primitive Nike Hercules interceptors of the 1950s nuclear armed bomber era, to the modern Patriot and THAAD ICBM interceptors of the 21st century. Superb!

This campground has some sites with a shade shelter and some that don't. I believe the ones with the shelter are available with a reservation. The sites are nicely spread apart and fairly private. The bathroom was large, clean and had 2 showers. There was a small visitor's center which was wonderfully air conditioned but I couldn't see anyone manning the desk (which was fine). There are some nice displays explaining the history of the area and some nature exhibits. You can sign up to take a tour of the Oliver Lee Ranch house, which occurs on Saturdays in the afternoon.

We live nearby and have been quite a few times. It’s a shame they don’t offer nicer discounts for military and their family members because this is one of the only things to do in Alamogordo and it gets expensive visiting multiple times a year when we have friends and family venture out and visit us while we are stationed here.
It’s not very exciting for me, can walk around in less than an hour and see everything.

What a neat little zoo! There was a good variety of animals. I especially enjoyed the bird enclosure. Admission is inexpensive and about an hour was adequate to look around. The enclosures are basically cages, but they are large and you can see the effort that has been made to enrich the habitats. Highly recommend.

I spent a whole afternoon there and wished I had started sooner. I would definitely advise this is a good place to spend an entire day for anybody genuinely interested in discovering more details about our early space exploration program. The building itself is a marvel to behold, and it is very accessible for handicapped individuals also. The exhibits are all pretty well self-explanatory, and you are free to browse for as long as you like on things that catch your attention. Alamogordo is such a friendly military base city; the people there all are open to help in any ways you ask.

Toy and Model Train museum with displays and operating layouts of many US model gauges. Outdoor 1/5 scale park train ride about 20 minutes of travel in the local park. Kid's train play area while waiting.

They charge too much for train rides and admission. It is a neat place to visit. The employees are friendly and knowledgable!

I don't have the words to describe this experience. It does not matter if you belong to a particular religion, or not.. The history and science is fascinating. It was surprising to find this tucked away in Alamogordo, New Mexico. People from all over the world visit here. I can only say that I am very very glad we stopped by for the presentation. It was an experience I will never forget.

I saw Fiddler on the Roof there and it was on par with shows I've seen in NYC and Vegas. Seating was limited. Also they have a concession stand with snacks and drinks.
