Hedgehog Bookshop

Penrith's AWARD WINNING independently owned bookshop in an 18th century building the center of town. Children's books are downstairs (accessible for prams) & grown up books upstairs. The shop is also open on Sundays 11:00 - 4:30 during the summer. We used to have a small vegan coffee shop, but this closed in September 2015 to make room for more books. It had excellent reviews here, so I'm sorry to disappoint fans, but in the end it really wasn't viable and expanding the bookshop made more sense & the book side of the business continues to thrive with a huge amount of local support (for which - thank you everyone!)

Booked in for a private lesson and hack last week with Laura. Both sessions were great! Laura was really welcoming and friendly and made me feel right at ease straight away. Setting of the yard is lovely, beautiful views from the outdoor arenas and both horses were a joy to ride. I did the hour and a half hack and the scenery was beautiful, woodland trails & even a stone circle! Next time I have some free time I will definitely pop back up for a ride. Thank you Bank House for reigniting my riding passion it was great to be in the saddle again ????☺️

Upfront Puppet Theatre

Unique as one of only four puppet theatres constructed in England, with puppeteers bridges for marionettes and a pit for working rod puppets from below. The site lines are great for children, with all the rows of seats on a steep rake, allowing children to see over adults. All of our productions are written, designed and produced in our own on site workshops, staged with full lighting and musical scores and appeal to all ages. The theatre has an on site cafe and also an on site free entry art gallery with shop. Tables can be reserved in the cafe for groups visiting the puppet theatre and a children's menu is offered. We were awarded the Readers Choice Culture Award from Cumbria Life Magazine this year for our venue and last year won the "Sustainable Tourism Award" from Cumbria Tourist board for our"Eco" buildings and sound green business ethic. Many of our audience members have returned year after year to see our performances and after show meet the puppet sessions for photographs.

We saw Puss in Boots with our 6 year old. She was enthralled through. Wonderful production, and it's great that the children can ask questions and see the puppets at the end. Would highly recommend.

Hallin Fell

Reviewed By paulsymonds - Haverhill, United Kingdom

Only my second Lakeland fell climb to date to me to Hallin Fell. We accessed the climb from the car park at St Peters church in Martindale. The little road that passes a few camp sites is driven from near Pooley bridge. Beware at busy times bank holidays being the main, the road is extremely difficult to navigate due volume of traffic and on one occasion a full sized coach manoeuvred along when we exited. Back to the climb, it is a very steep grassy track accessed on the opposite side of the road. With average fitness and resting you should make the summit in around half an hour. Believe me the views are magnificent in all directions. I loved it and I'm sure you will too, it's worth all the effort!
