Dharmadam Beach

Reviewed By Onwheels123

We landed on dharmadam by chance which was not much on itenary. After checking out few places we were not very happy and then thought of trying dharmadam.. To our surprise place was awesome with no one around. Amazed to see such a clean beach in India.. It is amazing...Try this place in early morning hours and you will get the best out of it. There is an island which is accessible by walk if the tides are not very high. Have a beach walk, meditate, feel serenity and come back after having a cup of tea in one and only local tea shop in the beach????Happy travelling...

Madayipara

Reviewed By Praveenop - Chennai (Madras), India

Madai Paara literally is a huge, huge laterite rock which measures about 600 acres. This place is not for people who seek adventure, It is a place for nature lovers. This small place and its surroundings are different from the surroundings. This is also a great for lepidopterologists ( study of moths and butterflies). If one come here during the right time one can see some of the worlds largest butterflies. It is a sight !!!! The place also has an ancient temple dedicated to goddess Kali and a fort. One can also see the sea which is far away due to its slight elevation. History also says that this place had hosted ancient Jewish settlers . The name of the small but famous perennial Handheld mirror shaped pond which has never gone dry is even now called Jewda Kulam (Pond of the jews) and the centre of Ezhimala kings and their administration. The laterite hills of Madayi also home of many many species of rare plants and flowering plants. The sunset from here is something that one should not miss. The Madayipara is best visited just after the rains when everything is green and life in this place is at its best.

The performance of Theyyam is supposed to make life prosperous and remove all hazards. Theyyam is perhaps the most significant ritualistic art form of Kerala - God's Own Country.

I rarely book through a travel agent but TravelKannur was able to organize our five day trip for four people amazingly! Santosh and Asha worked with my requests and were very adaptive. The price they quoted was fantastic and included lodging and most meals, in addition to the Theyyam performances (a Northern Keralan Hindu religious ceremony that happens in the winter). All four of us were completely blown away by the Theyyam. Some was in a local temple and others were held in the private temples of people's homes. Every ritual was astounding and felt like the real deal--not just a performance put on for spectators. TravelKannur are definitely the top experts on experiencing this. They were also able to book us an amazing overnight houseboat, as well as hotels/homestays that were right on the beach. It often felt like we had a private beach just 20 feet away. If you are at all interested in experiencing Theyyam or the unspoiled Kannur/Kasaragod/Bekal area, this is definitely the best and most economical way to do it.

The Rajarajeswara temple is a Shiva temple located at Taliparamba in the Kannur district of Kerala, South India. The temple is regarded as one of the existing 108 ancient Shiva Temples of ancient Kerala. It also has a prominent place amongst the numerous Shiva temples in South India. It had the tallest shikhara amongst the temples of its time. The Rajarajeshwara temple has a top of about 90 tonnes.
