Meeting Eileen and going on trail rides with her was definitely the high point of a recent weekend getaway I planned for my girlfriend’s birthday. We rode Saturday and loved it so much we went back for more on Sunday! Eileen is the best - she loves her horses so much and is a joy to spend time with. The rides were so much more than I had expected. She talked with us throughout the ride, watched over us and the horses, chose the perfect horses for our riding experience and abilities, educated us about the plants and the horses and even took pictures and videos of us that we got to keep to remember the experience. If you are going to Bandera, you need to visit her out on the ranch and enjoy a ride! Janine

Tom was a great guide- very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate. I'm glad we got to meet him as part of the ride. My wife had never ridden a horse before and I had only rode twice before. Tom and BHR were very accommodating to to us and made us feel safe and confident. We took the "River Ride" and the views were beautiful!

Lost Maples State Natural Area

An excellent park to view fall foliage while walking the Maple and East Trails.

Reviewed By wanderingcajunlady - Texas, United States

We visited the second week of November to hike and view fall foliage. We were lucky to have reserved day passes on a beautiful day, in the peak of colors. We were glad to have made our reservations early and in advance, because the park will sell out of day passes weeks to months in advance in the fall. We choose afternoon entrance, and if you choose it, please make sure you have enough time to do whatever activitiess you choose, especially hikes. We hiked the Maple Trail, then proceeded on to the East Trail, then East-West trail for a round trip circle of 4 miles. The hike took us 3 hours with minimal stop times. The most beautiful part of the trail is the Maple Trail if you are wanting to see fall colors. The East Trail and East-West were mostly rocky, uphill, steep and strenuous. Be sure you allow enough time to make it out before dark. You do not want to be navigating these steep incline/decline trails in the dark. We started at 2:30 pm and barely made it out before dark around 5:30. Also, be aware there is no cell service in this area. It's very remote, and you will likely not have any service, so prepare in advance. We enjoyed this hike very much, and the park is stunning in the fall.

Medina River

The portion of this river inside Hill Country State Natural Area is great for a swim.

You can stroll along the river or swim in it and the water is so clear you can see the roots of the trees and fish swimming up and down. There are also some wood carvings in the trees welcoming you to the river. A lovely place to relax and unwind.

Love Creek Orchards Cider Mill and Country Store

We have visited several times over the years. This is just one of those places you will drive a few extra miles to visit again and again. Don’t expect some magnificent place, it’s a simple little old house/business. But inside you will find wonderful treats, apple pie, apple ice cream, cookies and other good treats! They also have a grill, that we haven’t tried, but it looked good. They work on the honor system, go get what you want and let us know what you had. We really enjoy the ice cream!

Dixie Dude Ranch

Reviewed By Jiedw

During a touring holiday of Texas we spent 2 nights at the Dixie Dude Ranch, a family-run working ranch. Accommodation was in individual cabins. All meals were either in the ranch house or outside under the pergola. The holiday included supervised horserides. The horses are rescue animals which have been rehabilitated and are now in fabulous condition. My husband's horse was one-eyed but a lovely horse. There was entertainment of some sort on an evening including a champion stuntman. No TVs, no WiFi, no phone signal. A fabulous relaxing time. Wish we'd had longer. Ps I am a non rider but was looked after so well on the rides that I thoroughly enjoyed myself . Going back again some day .

We spent 24 hours on the ranch and had a wonderful time - our 2 young teens even enjoyed it! Highly recommend the trail ride - the horses were very well trained and the staff were helpful and kind. Papa J was very informative and enjoyable for the hayride, demos and even at the campfire. Our room - the Annie Oakley - was well appointed and a good value ???????? Highly recommend this experience!
