Sonoma Valley

One of the prime wine producing regions in California. A visit to Sonoma Valley yields an outstanding array of food, lodging and scenery.

We went to Sonoma Valley. This is a wonderful area to explore. There are lots of cute communities such as Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Windsor, Sonoma, Healdsburg. There are lots of great parks including Armstrong Redwoods State Park, We went again in July and enjoyed a Fourth of July lunch, wine tasting, exploring the country side, and then later visited with friends.

VJB Cellars

I visited several vineyards in Napa and Sonoma on this trip and thoroughly enjoyed this one. Maybe it was the beautiful architecture of the building and grounds, or the amazing brick oven pizza that we enjoyed for lunch...or maybe it was the gelato that proved to be the perfect sweet treat to round out our meal. It could have been the perfect Prosecco that kicked off our tasting (which I purchased) or the subsequent selection of 4 additional wines (2 of which I purchased). Whatever it was, it was perfect and was an awesome way to cap my trip. Oh...I also joined the VJB wine club...so there!

We are HALL wine members and big Pinot Noir fans so figured we would check out WALT and loved it! It is not on a vineyard as their grapes are sourced from multiple vineyards. The garden was quaint to sit in. Our host was lovely (I am so sorry I am suddenly blanking on his name). Overall great wine and experience and we will be back.

Hamel Family Wines

Thank you for considering Hamel Family Wines during your upcoming Sonoma visit. Each Experience is privately led by a Wine Ambassador, includes a tour, and wine tasting, and can include food pairings. In addition, a “dry” tasting is offered for non-wine drinkers who are enjoying the Experience with others. All tours are appointment only, and are available Thursday through Monday. At Hamel Family Wines, we strive to make great wine and to have fun doing so. We value quality over quantity, enjoyment over tedium and fostering long-term recurring relationships with our guests. We work hard to produce the highest quality wines in limited quantities from grapes grown on our Sonoma Valley and Moon Mountain District estate vineyards. We farm our vineyards with organic and biodynamic practices, always mindful of our role as responsible stewards of the land. We remain grateful for our guests, respectful of our neighbors and appreciative of the fine work that our team performs daily.

I booked the Reserve Experience for my family of four at Hamel Family Wines through their Facebook Messenger. The contact person Rachelle was very prompt with replies. The Reserve Experience combines wine tasting with four dishes of food pairings in the private dining room in their wine cave. The Hamel estate is so beautifully designed and immaculate. We were shown the facilities before settling in for the food and wines. Our guide Zakk told us a lot of information about the architecture (the main building and wine cave are just stunning), wine making process, and anecdotes, in such a funny and cheerful way, which made the experience even more memorable. The food was another highlight. All four dishes were absolutely delicious, more so than some other long established and well known restaurants in the area that we tried. The chef even made his own salt from local sea water. Some herbs were from the small garden in the property. The wines were impressive, so fragrant, too. I'm not much of a wine drinking person, so cannot describe the wine well. However, I absolutely love the whole experience. Special thanks goes to Zakk, the chef, and their team. Highly recommended.

The park is open year-round, 7 days, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. There is no camping. Day Use fee is $10/car. Historic buildings include the House of Happy Walls, the Wolf House Ruin, barns, the Cottage where Jack London lived and died and the famous "Pig Palace".

What a GEM! Jack London is California’s first native born novelist and this State Park is a chance to walk in his footsteps and appreciate his creativity and uniqueness. From the self-guided walking tours of Wolf House, the Beauty Ranch, and his cottage to the more extensive hikes up to London and Fern Lakes, is truly a walk back into the early 1900s. Unfortunately due to Covid the museum house was closed, and a return trip when it’s open is a must. I never tire of this State Park and the history it contains. Always include a picnic lunch to enjoy on property.

Sonoma Coast State Beach

A state park and beach recommended for fishing, walking and picnicking.

Reviewed By pfefmeister - San Francisco, United States

The stretch from Bodega Bay to Jenner is spectacular, as the road hugs the coastline, highlighted by sea stacks, coves, and endless vistas. Plenty of pull outs for beach stops, with many outfitted with picnic tables to relax and watch the ocean. Take your pick of the beaches, and spend the day in one of the most beautiful places on earth. And, if you are lucky, you could catch a whale or two in season. Just a great place.
