Castello del Buonconsiglio Monumenti e Collezioni Provinciali

The Buonconsiglio Castle is the largest and most important monumental complex of the Trentino Alto Adige region. It was the residence of the prince-bishops of Trento from the 13th century to the end of the 18th century, and is composed of a series of buildings of different eras, enclosed by walls and positioned slightly higher than the city. Castelvecchio is the oldest nucleus, dominated by an imposing cylindrical tower; the Magno Palazzo is the 16th century expansion in the Italian Renaissance-style as commissioned by the Prince-Bishop and Cardinal Bernardo Cles (1485-1539); the Baroque-style Giunta Albertiana dates from the end of the 17th century. At the extreme south of the complex is the Torre Aquila, within which is conserved the famous Cycle of the Months, one of the most fascinating secular pictorial cycles of the late Middle Ages.

My son & I really enjoyed visiting this castle as there are lots of neat sections to visit in the old part. The "newer" parts are interesting as well, & their collection of artifacts & exhibits is impressive. Well worth the reasonable entrance fee. The cafe was also pretty good! Grounds were decorated for the holidays which was also nice. Highly recommended!

The Bastion

The Bastione, a tower of grey stone, located at the foot of Mount Rocchetta, is one the symbols of Riva del Garda, overlooking the city and Lake Garda. It was built in the early XVI century, just after the end of Venetian domination over Riva. It was destroyed in 1703 by the French troops under leadership of general Vendôme, who mined the main body thus rendering it unusable. It’s a few minutes walk from the port of Riva, along a road that winds through the black pinewood of the lower Rocchetta. The path then rises further to the chapel of St. Barbara on the mountainside (610m) and the Rocchetta itself (1520m). The Bastione has recently been restored. Visitors may see the imposing external bodywork and what is left of the inside from a winding staircase. The locations enjoys an excellent view.

An easy walk up to The Bastion as the funicular wasn't open till 11. Fantastic views from the top with a very nice cafe where you can get good coffee and admire Riva from on high. Be careful to check what time the funicular opens, on the day we went it wasn't till 11 as it was closed for maintenance. Very busy by the time we left.

Lago di Ledro

Lake Ledro is located 10 Km from Lake Garda and it is surrounded by green mountains, where you can hike or bike. At Lake Ledro you can relax in one of the 4 beaches and swim in its fresh water. One of the beaches is animal friendly. Lake Ledro is also best known because of the Pile-Dwelling settlement, dating back to the Bronze Age, recently recognized as UNESCO World Heritage.

Thankfully lacking the crowds of other nearby lakes, lago di ledro is a wonderful place to enjoy everything a crystal clear mountain lake has to offer: swimming, boating, kayaking, paddleboarding or walking around the lake. The community has done well to preserve the natural beauty by preserving lots of parkland and public beaches around the lake, so it has easy access for everyone. We paddle boarded for hours and loved this place!

A lovely place for a short stop. Water color was just amazing and best experience one can have if its not windy at all and water surface is just calm. There was a viewing platform available and the option to walk around the lake. Parking was available and the cost was 1€ per hour. Near the parking area there was a small hanging bridge.

Verynice place to spend a day relaxing. A wonderful little lake to dip in and swim. You can rent a pedal boats and rowing boats and there is the lifeguard free service. The lake has a little island that you can join by foot, not necessary to swim. on the shore there is a bar.
