Top 10 Things to do Good for Couples in Guatemala City, Guatemala Department

November 1, 2021 Toi Mattera

Guatemala City draws visitors whose interests range from Maya history to contemporary culture. Two museums house Maya artifacts, some of which were discovered on a nearby archaeological site. Other museums exhibit indigenous and modern art. In Mercado Central, an underground market, shoppers bargain with vendors selling local handicrafts. Additional attractions include a botanical garden and a scale replica of the Eiffel Tower. A night out in bustling Zona Viva caps off a day of sightseeing.

Mario was booked through our travel agent Martsam travel and he was a fantastic guide to show us up. Mario is incredible friendly, accommodating, knowledgable about the volcano as well as the nature and region around it, he's simply a lot of fun to be with and made the trip a very exciting and special experience for my girlfriend and me. Especially for the last bit, I would recommend to wear actual hiking shoes, as you will walk on lava stone so you make sure your ankles are firm, then it will be much easier than just with hiking shoes. Going up closer to the cone and actually seeing hot red lava is super exciting. Everything else, Mario took care of, he also prepared a nice picnic for us before we went down again and his home baked banana bread was just yummy. Thank you very much, Marco, we hope to see you again!

I traveled with a group of 16 girls and we stayed and studied Spanish in Antigua. Erick was an amazing tour guide. He really made an effort to make everyone feel welcome and we bonded with him over the week and a half we spent with him. He went above and beyond and even endured our bus ride karaoke. He was always down for a selfie and always packed his positive attitude. A tour guide can really make or break a trip and we are very grateful to have had Erick!

Textiles and clothing of the Mayan people, Guatemala's indigenous community, are displayed at this outstanding museum, which also contains paintings, interactive weaving exhibits, a bookstore and gift shop.

While small, this museum is really worth your time to visit given its comprehensive exhibits about Mayan textile, festivals, and their presences in Guatemala. The presentations include videos, exhibits, and figures. We learnt a lot about the Mayan textiles more than anywhere we visited in Mexico.
