Triglav National Park

Triglav National Park is one of the most im¬portant natural treasures of Slovenia. It is named after the sym¬bolic mountain Triglav (2,864 m) and is one of the oldest parks in Europe. The first protec¬tion attempts date back to the year 1906. Thepark covers nearly 84,000 hectares, almost the entire territory of the eastern Julian Alps. The Triglav National Park (TNP) is the only Slovenian national park. The management of the Triglav National Park is the responsability of the Triglav national Park Public Institution, based in Bled. The national park is a model example of successful harmonisation of different interests focused on a common goal: well-preserved nature, landscape and cultural heritage. The values of a national park are a motive and an attractive goal for visitors who respect the exceptional nature and cultural heritage as well as the peace and quiet of the area.

As a nature lover, Triglav Park was on my activities list during my trip in Slovenia. The park is in the Julian Alps, therefore offers the typical beautiful alpine landscape :) There are different paths and you can find information on the official website and at the "ticket office" at the entrance. My friend and I are quite active and we chose a medium path, which was actually very easy, on the way up, we hiked along a small stream, arriving at a waterfall. We had a packed lunch with us, and on the way back, we stopped for a drink in a typical place, which really added to the visit. The park is very well looked after. Nature and photography lovers are going to love this place :)

There are two big waterfalls, one over another. The path is good and easy, I recommend trainers. One of the waterfall has a path all around it, which is fantastic that you can stand under the stone and the waterfall falls down.

For the whole family, it was a unique experience in a breathtaking Alpine environment. Very kind and professional approach, which makes you feel safe. The attraction is exciting and unusual but not at all risky. Our only regrets are that we did not book at least two rides per person so that we could enjoy it better and that we did not plan to stay a couple of hours more to explore the surroundings. The impressive ski-jump complex (there are 8 ski jumps) is worth a visit even without any other activity. There are enough parking places, where you can park for the whole day for € 2.5.

We emailed Danijela about arranging a private tour for three of us and she replied suggesting a choice of two timings. Closer to the date, we let her know about the time of our arrival. As we stayed at Garni Hotel Berc, we walked through the residential area and country road to reach this place in the village of Selo in about 25 mins. Before we went on the tour (6 euros each), we wore a hat with protective netting. Danijela is a warm person and she explained to us the intricacies about bee keeping. She also encouraged us to try the Bee therapy by lying on a bed. She readily answered our questions. Bees and other pollinators, such as butterflies, bats and hummingbirds, are increasingly under threat from human activities. Pollinators allow many plants, including many food crops, to reproduce and they are key to conserving biodiversity - a cornerstone of the Sustainable Development Goals. To raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development, the UN designated 20 May as World Bee Day. This date was chosen as it coincides with the birthday of Anton Janša, who in the 18th century pioneered modern beekeeping techniques in his native Slovenia and praised the bees for their ability to work so hard, while needing so little attention. We also visited the gift shop and learnt what good honey is like. We also tasted some samples. After my trip to Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia, I felt that her prices are reasonable and the small bottles of honey are good gifts for families and friends back home. We walked back by another way passing a working farm where we saw brown cows and lovely houses with beautiful flowers in their gardens. Soon we arrived at Lake Bled and this walk was pleasant and scenic. Strongly recommend a walk there to visit an important industry and learnt much about the importance of bee.

Cathedral of St. Nicholas (Stolnica Sv. Nikolaja)

Reviewed By Sonnymao

It's not that impressive from the outside (after seeing all the wonderful churches in Europe you tend to be too hard-to-please!) But once you step through the massive bronze doors (recent additions from Pope John Paul II's visit in 1992). Wondrous frescoes and artwork welcome you - Pink marble and frescoes by the Italian Baroque master Giulio Quaglio glow inside Ljubljana’s St. Nicholas Cathedral. It is a crime not to see this stunningly gorgeous church when you are in Ljubljana. And admission is free!

The main bridge in Ljubljana that every tourist must visit as it connects two main squares between the old and new town. It is also the widest pedestrian bridge across the river due to its name and due to its status, it is always crowded with people. Gives you a good view of the river and the different attractions, and is usually quite festive. Really enjoyed the atmosphere here.

Lake Bled

Discover the magic of the lake that attracts travellers from near and far. The current unique shape of the year did not emerge coincidentally. A tectonic hole made by the Bohinj glacier through the years, was once at the location of the present lake. Its path was obstructed by a huge rock which was so persistently scraped that the only thing that remained was the present island. The ice melted and the basin was filled with water, thus Lake Bled emerged, which is in some places up to 30 metres deep and quite popular amongst divers. 19 species of fish live in the lake, including carp, sheatfish and lake trout. Ducks and swans as well as diverse plants also swim and thrive on its surface.

Very picturesque lake so still - great pics with sun out- got bus from Bled to Ribcev Lazto - walked to Ukanc - choice there to get cable car (20euro) to MT Vogel or walk on to see Slap Savica Waterfall. Not much snow so walked to waterfall - bit disappointing as not much water flow despite being early Feb - a long walk but at least there was a bar at falls - walked back on other side of lake the views not as good - care to be taken on footpath - lots of fallen trees - 22km walk but worth it
