Bharath Art And Crafts

We are a one of the oldest artisans group of Channapatna toys and handicrafts. We offers live demo of our traditional work and about the history of Channapatna toys and handicrafts.

Reviewed By rpkrishn - Bengaluru, India

We had been to this place on 28th Dec'20 to make it a combined outing-cum-learning experience, yet not far from Bangalore. our 9 year old learnt about Channapatna and the world famous toys during her school project last month. We wanted to show her the toys and also the work that goes behind as well. Thanks to other reviews on Trip Advisor on Bharath Arts & Crafts, it was worth every min & rupee we spent. First we went to the shop where the toys are sold. Though small in size, the variety of the toys and creative utilities made out of wood were pretty exciting & enlightening. My kid loved it every bit (she wants to visit again!). The place and the person who manned it were very friendly. Personally felt the price of the toys was reasonable. We were also encouraged to the factory - about 2 km from the shop - in 'Channapatna Toys Center' that is coming up. Once in the factory, we were greeted by Mr. Srinivas who explained about the wood used in these toys and lacquer used to color them. Then he took us to the lathe machines used to making toys. He enthusiastically explained with a spirited demo of making of a beautiful Top. My kid was in full awe at the way the colorful Top shaped up from what was just a block of wood a few minutes ago! Unless you are proud of your work, it is difficult to display such passion while showcasing it to an unknown visitor. Super experience. I wish such traditional toy making business flourish for generations to come. This place is a perfect weekend get-away for anyone in Bangalore or nearby places. More so, if you have a kid to accompany and learn.

Savandurga

Reviewed By himanshuayo - Phuket, Thailand

I have been here 3 times, reached the top twice. If you're going for the first time, do read this fully. One of the better treks on the outskirts of bangalore. The trek is roughly 3.9 kms uphill. (as per my smartwatch) Tips: *This is a steep beginner-Intermediate trek which may take a rough 1.5-2.5 hours uphill and 40-60 mins downhill based on your fitness level. * Start early in the morning around 4 am if you wanna experience the best view. Really good sports/trekking shoes are a *MUST . Slippers/sandals are going to make it really hard avoid em. Barefoot is also okay as long as you're confident and not doing it during the day time(the rock starts to get really hot aft 12pm) *avoid during the rainy season. Few portions of the trek do get slippery n get fatal *Carry sunscreen, energy bars, 2 litres of water, a powerbank, (don't keep hydrating yourself unless you really need to, it'll only slow you down) though you'll find vendors selling butter milk, water, juice etc atop. Keep your backpack light. *Garbage bags are a must. Do not litter around this beautiful place. Carry your stuff all the way downhill *Have breakfast at the bottom before you start. The Locals provide you really good home made food. Do not start on an empty tummy. *There are white arrows painted on the rock to direct you, follow em all the way. Beautiful trek, Sundays are usually crowded try going on a saturday. Haffun, Safe trekking and DO NOT LITTER.

Janapada Loka

Janapada Loka translates into English as a ‘Folkcosmos’. Visit the beautiful 15-acre campus, where Karnataka’s rural milieus have been recreated to keep the pulse of the past alive. Shri H.L. Nage Gowda, a long-serving civil servant and lover of folk culture of India, is the creator and conceptual architect of this prominent cultural centre of India. As an institution it is dedicated to promoting, preserving, publicising and propagating the native folk culture of Karnataka. Today it has become a hub of continuing activities and festivals, highlighting the cultural and aesthetic dimensions of native art forms and storytelling. Since its inception in 1979, it has been a platform for rural artisans, musicians and craftspeople to showcase as well as market their works of art. Ramadevara Betta Hill

Reviewed By CBSKUMAR - Bengaluru, India

This is a delightful, fulfilling and rewarding trek ! The famous bollywood movie “Sholay” was shot around this area, long back. Start & end early. Plenty of scenery & greenery with natural light, available for photography. Here are some highlights about this hike :-  Nice breakfast options enroute along the highway.  Small entrance fee at the start of the hike.  Ample parking room & quite safe for Cars & Bikes.  Hiking shoes with good traction needed to negotiate rocks.  Carry some water to the top.  Scarf or Bandana will help.  Well set up path up the hill with railing & steps.  The last stretch of single rock has mini steps to the very top, that are dangerous to climb up/down.  The temple on the way down offered us lunch around noon.  The toilet in the middle of the hill is dark & poorly maintained.

Enough entertainment to keep you occupied for the whole day for adults and kids. The food was very tasty though the Non-Veg food items were limited. Zipliners, a swimming pool, rain dance are available. The locker system is also there so no need to worry about your luggage.

River Arkavathy joins river cauvery at Mekedatu Sangama. scenic beauty of this place was amazing. One can cross the sangama by round shaped boats (INR 50 per person). Initially this place was not there in our itinerary. As hogenakkal waterfalls was closed due to flood, this place was included. Around 100 KM from hogenakkal. Perfect place for one day outing from Bangalore (100 km).
