Lazaro Niebla Gallery

During a group tour of the artist's studios of Havana, we were introduced to the art of Lazaro Niebla. Using antiques shutters from local buildings, Mr. Niebla carves the likeness of aged faces he sees on the streets. Each is dimensional, some are tinted, but all are wonderful.

Its a bit of a trek from the town centre so wear comfortable practical shoes. We went early (approx 11.30pm / midnight) before it got too busy and filled with smoke. Amazing place. Definitely worth checking out.

Convento de San Francisco de Asis

Up in the old town area ,this old convent is well worth taking a look around ,historical artefacts and some great architechtual woodwork can still be seen, also a small museum with history of the Revolution are situated around the inner courtyard, the best place to head to is up the stairs to the balcony, some nice views of Trinidad, even better take the very tight/small winding staircase up two more floors and then up on to the roof and you get a 360' degree vista of Trinidad and the outskirts up to the countryside, and the coast / sea. great photographic opertunities from up here and a good insight into local Cuban life .Only 2cuc to get in.

Casa del Alfarero

Reviewed By Onleaveagain - Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom

Whilst on a private tour of Trinidad our guide asked whether we wanted to visit a local pottery shop/factory. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the pottery was actually made on site by a fairly well renown potter. You are able to watch the various items actually being made and fired which was interesting. The array of coloured pottery was extensive and very reasonably priced. We actually purchased a fairly large piece which we did manage to get back to the UK without breaking. There are several photographs of the owner Daniel "Chichi" Santander presenting pieces of his pottery to Fidel Castro and other dignitaries. In the rear area of the showroom there is old convertible Ford Model T car which attracted a fair bit of interest when we visited. It can get very busy if a coach load of tourists suddenly descends without notice. Luckily we were just leaving at the time. Worth a visit.

The altar area was beautiful. There were different chapel areas. One had Christ on the cross, and Mary with a spear in her heart. There's a story about how these statues came there.

My family and friends have had great experiences with Barrio Cubano for two years running. They have catered for me and my friends - reasonably advanced dancers, my husband (beginner) and our kids ages 6 - 9. They are always reliable, kind and lots of fun! Let them k ow what you need and the type of dance experience you want and they will do their best. And like with everything, if you don't 100% click with one of the teachers, ask if they have another and they will do their best to meet your needs. Highly recommended ????
