The museum is small & quaint but the information and history inside is overwhelming and fascinating. The staff is very knowledgeable and when Mary tells stories you can tell she loves what she does. If they don't know an answer they'll find it! Just LOVE this little gem in Placerville!

Lava Cap Winery

Celebrate the magic of mountain-grown grapes and the beauty that surrounds Lava Cap Winery. Savor the taste of well-balanced wines rich with full flavor and body, vibrant fruit, crisp acidity and soft tannins. Bring a picnic and relax on the deck overlooking our vineyards.

We had been to Lava Cap a few times over the past couple years and decided to become wine club members. The handwritten welcome card from the family was a nice touch, as was the personal follow-up email after I experienced a glitch in processing my membership. Their club pickup parties are fun but not free. They are quite generous with the pours and varieties of wine offered during these parties. And the December blow out event is not to be missed. This is not a criticism of Lava Cap in particular, but their wine can sometimes be found cheaper at certain local grocery stores and national retailers. I have heard that club members are the backbones of wineries and would like to think that members would receive the absolute best possible pricing. Even with the member discount, I can sometimes do better elsewhere. Not all Lava Cap wines, of course, are available in stores which is why we stay. Again, Lava Cap is hardly alone in this regard. This is one of the oldest wineries in the rapidly growing El Dorado County wine region and is starting to get recognition on the national level. Highly recommend a visit!

I reserved a pod for my husband's birthday (first time "indoors" at a restaurant in a year thanks to Covid!) It was absolutely lovely. We tasted 6 wonderful wines (and ate yummy french bread pizza) while enjoying a gorgeous view of the snow-covered mountains. I highly recommend Sierra Vista for the wine and the unique experience.

So friendly and fun! Four ladies stopped for a tasting because it was recommended by another tasting room and it was a wonderful surprise! Not especially fancy looking, but we bought several of their wines. They were so good. Will was our server and super knowledgeable and just plain fun! We really enjoyed talking about food with the wine too. One of our group had never been wine tasting before and now she's hooked!

Miraflores Winery

Miraflores Winery was founded in 1998 by Dr. Victor Alvarez. Our first vines of Syrah and Zinfandel were planted during that year and our first vintage was produced in 2003. Today, on our 252 acre property, we now have 45 planted acres of 16 different grape varietals. Our renowned winemaker, Marco Cappelli, has been creating our wine from the very beginning and brings his old world experience and knowledge from wine making in France and Italy to the table while integrating unique and modern wine making styles. Escape the hectic pace of everyday life and come taste elegant wine on our stone patio overlooking our 42 acres of vineyards. We are proud to say that over 50 of our wines have been rated 90 points or more by and Wine Enthusiast since 2005! In summer, sit under our wooden beamed arbor to enjoy gourmet food & wine pairing lunches or in winter, warm up next to our centuries-old fireplace with a glass of red wine and a bowl of soup while taking in our gorgeous vineyard views!

Reviewed By mllpdx - Portland, United States

Just out of lockdown, Miraflores did a great job of social distancing, so no worries there. The outdoor setting is delightful, with amazing views. The outdoor Ramada is built with HUGE timbers salvaged from the 1933 Oakland Ferry fire, and found in Mexicali in the early 2000s! Other amazing artifacts/antiques collected by the owner can be found in the Tasting Room. The red wines are delicious and reasonably priced for its quality. Some food is available. All in all, a wonderful winery to visit!

We recently moved to the foothills after living for years in Marin County and also Napa. Looking to explore the area wineries we found Narrow Gate Vineyards on Trip Advisor and what a pleasant surprise! We have been to many wineries over the years, but this little boutique winery in Pleasant Valley now ranks among one of our favorites! The owners Frank and Teena are gracious and friendly at their small "boutique" winery, making you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the doors. Best thing is, their wines are GREAT, too! We enjoyed many of winemaker Frank's varietals and even brought home a bottle of their "special" Chocolate Splash port style wine! The nominal tasting fee of $5 is applied to any purchase, so you really can't pass up buying one of the many delicious wines they have to offer at this wonderful little winery! We're looking forward to going back for another visit soon to enjoy some more time in the quaint little tasting room amongst the towering oak barrels of wine!
