Top 10 Things to do Good for a Rainy Day in Montepulciano, Tuscany

March 16, 2022 Myesha Cogley

Montepulciano makes a great base for exploring the Tuscan hill towns. Just make sure to pack well-broken-in walking shoes, because cars aren’t allowed in the center of town. Explore the Duomo of Montepulciano and the Palazzo Tarugi… or sample the local wine, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which has been praised for centuries.

True Taste Of Tuscany

We were treated with Respect and Equality from we entered the door until we left. I learnt that was not a norm in Italy depending on where you are. That being said... Our host was very engaging and enthusiastic about imparting knowledge of the Winery and its processes and we learned a bit from her. The wines were also very good, we took a bottle to go. Tasting room is modern and relaxing and has a nice view of the vineyard just outside. Thanks for a great experience Poliziano!

Our hotel in Montepulciano arranged this tour for us and we are so glad that they did. We've done several winery tours in the past and I can honestly say that this one was the most informative we ever done. We learned so much about the entire process. The tasting was wonderful as well, as they offered several different types of wine to try. We ended up purchasing an entire case to have shipped back to the US. Our packaged arrived a few weeks later and we've already enjoyed one of the bottles. Each time we open one it will remind us of our amazing Italian trip. I highly recommend both the tour and their wines.

We thoroughly recommend Icario, both for the wine and the experience. The wine tasting with Lucia was informative and a lot of fun (even in these dark days of COVID). The winery and grounds are beautiful and the passion of the owners towards wine-making is evident. You should definitely include this winery in your itinerary while in Montepulciano.

We stayed in Cortona from Sept to December this last year (2019) and went looking for some wine to drink during our stay. We went to several wine tasting places in Cortona but by far the BEST was Gabriella's place. What a fantastic and loving person she is and her wines are outstanding! We even bought a case for her to ship to us in California! I recommended her to several people who all went and said they had a great experience also. So if you're in the area, go see firey lovely Gabriella and taste her wine and her Lemoncello!

I was visiting Italy last November and this is my favorite wine in the world! Nobile di Multipulciano. I've been drinking it for 18yrs and I was driving around with a friend for 3hrs trying to find this winery. Finally we stopped and asked someone to help us and we called and they were going to close and she stayed because I told her I had traveled from Hawaii! It was the most amazing experience. She poured us wine and gave us the VIP treatment. I was heading to Ohio for the Holidays and I took 2 bottles with me for New Year's Eve!!! Everyone loved it. It brought me so much joy. I highly recommend their wine of course! But the Service was incredible as well. It's worth it.

First, if you're traveling to Italy and want to stay in Tuscany there are so many small Towns & Villages to see it can be difficult to decide where to go or where to start. My wife and I were looking to avoid the bigger Cities and after doing a lot of research and talking to friends, we decided to make Montepulciano our home base and make day trips to visit smaller Towns & Villages Bec cause of a booking issuewe needed a place to stay our first 2 days/nights, and after more research we decided to stay those first 2 days/nights at The Grapevine by MANVI It turned out to be the best booking issue ever! And if not for losing a good deal of money on our Villa, we would have cancelled and spent EVERY day/Night of our trip at the Grapevine by MANVI! First, the property is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful! My wife and I would stand near the edge of the main property and stare in absolute wonder at the beauty of the surrounding area! You can see the Village of Montepulciano from the Greapevine at MANVI, as well as their own rows of vines and other beautiful properties. That alone would have made our stay more than we could have hoped for. But as it turned out it was the smaller part/reason that made our stay so magical. The BIGGER reason our stay at the Grapevine at MANVI was so amazing was the owner. Unfortunately one of the owners was in the US during our visit, but we were so fortunate to have met Sudha, who from the very moment we arrived until the time we left made this a truly amazing experience for us! We arrived after a 10+ hour flight, 3 hours in the Rome Airport waiting for our rental car followed by a 2 hour drive, yet when we arrived Sudha instinctively knew exactly what we needed and welcomed us as if we were coming home. During our two days/nights at the Grapevine by MANVI Sudha made herself available to us, and for everything we needed, from places to eat, to the Village of Montepulciano and everything else in between. She had breakfast waiting for us both mornings, and she makes the best cappuccino imaginable. Sudha shared with us the story of how she and her husband came to live in Italy and own the Grapevine at MANVI. Although her husband wasn't there, Sudha shared his passion for making wine with us, and she was kind enough to give my wife and I a private tour of their Winery, including a tasting of their amazing wines! I had to admit to Sudha that I am not much of a wine drinker and have zero knowledge of what a good wine is vs one that's average. And I also had to admit that the rare times I do have a glass of wine it is always white. I'm just not a fan of Red Wine This is another reason I was so blown away with the Wine Sudha and her husband produce with such passion at the Grapevine at MANVI A couple of final thoughts to anyone who should find my review and take the time to read it. First, if you're looking to visit Italy, Tuscany specifically, and you're not sure where to start I strongly suggest finding a place as your home base where you can take day trips to other small Villages at your own pace. I would highly recommend staying at the Grapevine by MANVI. If it's just two of you rent a rom in the B&B. If it's a bigger group, rent the entire B&B! Also, you're going to find the Italian Countryside breathtakingly beautiful. That's a given. But the difference in how much you enjoy where you stay and what you see will be the people you meet along the way. The people who take the time to share their passion for Wine Making, who share their passion for the beautiful Italian Countryside are what will make ALL of the difference between a vacation and a vacation of a lifetime! And that's why I recommend you stay qt The Grapevine at MANVI, be cause there you'll enjoy a Vacation of a Lifetime!

Really great! We’ve done this twice with different small groups of our friends. The grounds are beautiful and the English tours are very informative and interesting. We started in the morning with a cooking class. In this hands-on class, we made Tiramisu, Pici Pasta, and a roasted chicken dish that was started by being wrapped in Saran Wrap. All were delicious. Lunch was fabulous and being able to taste the wines we just learned about was well done. They have a nice gift shop with a good selection of wines. They ship, so of course we bought the Vin Santo! A must do when near Montepulciano!
