Top 10 Things to do Good for a Rainy Day in Ko Lanta, Krabi Province

July 17, 2021 Mikaela Didonna

The dive sites surrounding Ko Lanta are considered to be some of Thailand’s finest. An intricate system of reefs, islets, and underwater caves are teeming with vibrant sea life. While you splash in the waves you may catch a glimpse of a Moken (sea gypsy) boat, gliding nomadically through the waters. Cap off your day with mouthwatering seafood, freshly caught and spicy enough to make your tongue tingle.

But don’t think you have to worry, cause they have several teacher when more students :-) outside cooking put even in hot weather the place was shaded and cool- and that’s nice when you’re cooking with open flames! :-D we choose to cook: chicken satays with peanut sauce, Golden bags with chicken and prawn w. Tasty Thai sauce, steamed fish fillet with lime and chilli and Stir fried chicken, sweet and sour! And is was so fun! Most of the cooking we did or self’s! And Lanta Thai were so great at teaching this away. Loved it! Thank you so much for an entertaining, fun and educational afternoon together with you!

There are some great veggie options on Koh Lanta, but nothing comes close to the delicious vegan burger at Time for Lime. The perfect balance of great texture and tasty. Best enjoyed while supping a cocktail and watching the sun set over the beach. Personal favourites - mojitos, lemongrass margaritas, amaretto sours. The cooking school is also great fun My partner participated with the other men in the New Year’s Eve Naked Chef event while the ladies took the cocktail class. Highly recommended.

We had a really great cooking course with Sandy and would recommend her course to anybody interested in learning how to make delicious and refined Thai dishes. It was just me and my partner and we chose to cook the following dishes: Pad Thai, Chicken Basil, Panang Prawn and Mango Sticky Rice. Sandy would first demonstrate how to cook a particular dish and then we would try to cook it ourselves. She tried to teach us to not strictly adhere to ingredient amounts but to go by taste, although it would have been nice to have the recipes printed out. I have to honestly say that the food we cooked with Sandy was the best we had on our three week Thailand trip! Her kitchen was very nice and her English is very good so that we could have interesting chats.

I can’t recommend visiting Lanta Animal Welfare enough! We weren’t sure what the center would be like in the low season (most of the rest of the island is a ghost town) but the second we walked in, we were warmly greeted by a volunteer named Kelly who got us signed up to take some puppies on a walk and take a tour of the facilities. While we waited, we got to cuddle with all the friendly cats in their “cat city” and chat with Kelly about they work they do there. Dog walking was really fun — we got to walk two super energetic pups and the volunteers that walked with us were friendly and eager to chat with us. They also had mosquito repellant that they offered us as we walked through part of the woods. After dog walking, Kelly gave us a full tour of the facilities and talked in great detail about every space, dog, and activity that went on at the center. She was super knowledgeable and communicated an incredible amount of info while keeping it engaging and interesting — not an easy feat, as it was POURING rain for most of the tour. After the tour, she let everyone know what they could do to support the center’s efforts, both monetarily and not. I can’t stress enough what a great time we had at the center and how much anyone coming to Thailand should come visit! Learning about their mission and cuddling kittens were both highlights of our entire Thailand trip.

This is just about the only genuine bar in the locality, and we had a great time hanging around here. Always a cheery welcome from the staff, especially the bar manager. Good music playing (and Steve, the owner, does take requests) Live music on Fridays and the band are very enthusiastic and friendly guys. My holiday drink was a Margarita, and they were all very well made and the prices for drinks generally was on a par with everywhere else. Steve the owner is a friendly guy. We really enjoyed ourselves here!

As you can see by the many other 5/5 reviews this is an excellent tailor and I was very pleased with the results and the process. Just a few tips if you've never worked with a custom tailor before: Don't go on the last days of your stay on Ko Lanta. First I decided on a fabric and got measured. Next time I tried on the first shirt and we made a few tweaks. So third time the shirt was ready and perfect. If you're lucky it might fit perfectly the first time you try it on. The other thing is that some fabrics they readily in the store while others they have small samples and then they order it for you. I personally find it difficult to tell from the small fabric samples how it will look once it's an actual shirt. I was happy with all of them and they looked much better in big than on the small patch. So go there early during your stay. I first had only one shirt done but since it came out really nice I got three more made.
