FireFly Farms

If you are near Accident (on purpose or on accident- hahahahaha!), stop by Firefly Farms to get yourself the most delicious cheese! We had previously had the Merry Goat Round at a winery and loved it. We were looking forward stopping in their market. They had many choices of cheeses, wine, bread/crackers, meats. You could easily shop for a great charcuterie platter there! The staff was very helpful in recommendations. We've already dipped into the wood-strapped Merry Goat Round (aged 90 days to sweet, soft perfection, almost like a brie) and look forward to enjoying our others. They also had other local merchants' goods, i.e. honey, spreads. We were happy to hear they now have a store in Whitehall Market in Baltimore and look forward to checking that out!

Located in Spruce Village on National Pike in Grantsville MD. A 'new' building representing an 'old' Scandinavian style home. 2 floors plus an attic. Many wall markers tell the history plus many home objects of the period. Walk in fireplace in the center.

Garrett County Museum of Transportation

In my wanderings, I decided to visit the museum (and just barely beat a rainstorm!!) What a delight - especially the cars that are privately owned and have been refurbished. Upstairs was local history, including a horrific story about a school bus that stalled on the railroad tracks. I had no idea about that history.

Black Bear Wine and Words

Reviewed By Eljarah - Altoona, United States

My wife & I recently visited Wine & Words in early November. Barry immediately greeted us, introduced himself & invited us to join in a free Wine Tasting with another couple. We sampled a Red, a White & a Dessert Wine. Barry was so informative RE: the wines but more importantly- so friendly with all four of us during our Sampling! It truly felt like spending time with old friends! My wife & I purchaserd a bottle of the Dessert wine & shared it while we browsed their book collection. Patty joined us in cheering on the Steelers to a win over the Rams! What a wonderful start to our getaway weekend! We definitely will be back!
