We heard about Wester Amstel through a friend and decided to give it a go, over last weekend. Must say, it was one of the most fulfilling experience I have had with my family in Netherlands. The estate is a hidden gem that unfolds itself if you start exploring it. From fruit orchard to flowerbeds, from old farm house (with an incredible and interesting history) to oak plantations (and a mini cozy tea house in the corner), it is a truly enriching experience that transports you to a unique natural and historical feel. The owners and staff are equally hospitable as the total environment. They take a personal pride and interest in showing around and sharing stories about the history of entire estate in a very engaging way (of course if they are available). Our daughter had a specially great time picking pears and apples from orchard and running behind chickens. All in all a great day we spent and would love to visit time and again.

Such a pretty park and the perfect location if you’re hiring bikes and worried about cycling on the road! The park also offers and restaurant and a pub so you don’t even have to leave for refreshments.

you need to book online at least the day before but there are machines outside the museum so its easy to book. The actual museum is fantastic .... very easy to follow the audio tape around the different rooms...plenty of space just to chill and sit and admire the paintings... the history is fascinating and my 11 yr old granddaughter was so inspired she hasnt stopped painting since I loved my visit here and now want to go to New York to see the starry night painting..

If the idea of cycling in Amsterdam terrifies you (and it probably should), come here. We had a lovely breakfast in the park and rented bikes for two adults five children with ease. From there we rode to a pool for wading, a lake for canoeing, a herd of highland cattle for viewing (at a safe distance) and a wonderful pancake house for -- what else? pancakes :-). On an extended visit to Amsterdam, it was a wonderful escape from the city for a day.

Definitely worth a quick visit, such a nice and peaceful place with two churches and the oldest house in Amsterdam, from the 1400s (it is the black house right in front of the statue of the Begijn lady). I went as part of Rick Steves free "Amsterdam City Walk" audio guide. Do a search online and download it for free!

The eastern end, near the Golden Bend, is not for raucous thrill seekers. It's quite placid, though move back, around the Rembrandt Square, and it's lively. It is centrally located--perhaps 15 minute stroll to museum square and 10 minutes to Dam Square. The city is extremely walkable--compact and flat.
