Perth Diving Academy

Perth Diving Academy (PDA) is Western Australia's premier scuba diving organisation. With over 35 years of experience and a wealth of knowledge to draw on, PDA is the place you want to complete your diver training. PDA was first established in 1978 primarily to teach scuba diving. This fun and exciting activity proved to be one of the worlds fastest growing sports and the shop developed rapidly into Australia's largest dive store. The emphasis at PDA has always been towards quality of instruction and service and in order to achieve these goals the company has built the most modern and complete training facilities in Australia. PDA offers a choice of two training outlets, Balcatta and Hillarys. Both facilities have indoor heated pools and classrooms for diver instruction. Full retail sales and service is available for most brands of equipment from both the Hillarys and Balcatta facilities. The Balcatta store has the largest range of equipment and a full-time service bay that caters to the servicing of Equipment from all over Perth. The retail sale area is one of the busiest in Australia, hence the large range. The Fremantle training zone is based around the jetty that provides access to the PDA vessels as well providing an all-weather diver training area with a diver training wreck at 8 metres. Fremantle offers sales facilities along with being the boat departure point for our diving and evening river cruises. Open water courses from many local instructors use the Fremantle facility to complete the shore and pool sessions prior to going out to Rottnest on our boat to complete their open water training. The Hillarys Store is located on the northern side of the Hillarys Marina Complex alongside The Western Australian Fisheries and Marine Research Laboratories. The close proximity to the Beach and Boat launching facilities make PDA Hillarys a popular location for divers, swimmers and other water sport enthusiasts. PDA owns and operates the surveyed dive charter vessel, 'Lionfish IV', a 24 metre purpose built boat, This vessel runs from Fremantle to a variety of dive sites based around Rottnest Island as well as providing an excellent venue for social river cruises along the Swan River. 'Wildcat', a 12m surveyed dive vessel operates from PDA Hillarys departing from the Hillays Marina for single dives in the Marmion Marine Park. Through our association with Diving Adventures and on our own we organise dive travel to many overseas and local destinations working hand in hand with the local operators. The result of over 35 years of development is Australia's most advanced diver training establishments offering a complete range of courses from entry level to instructor as well as dive travel and retail sales.

Fremantle Prison

Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions and the only World Heritage listed building in the State. The Prison was built by convicts in the 1850s and was used as a place of incarceration for almost 140 years. With solitary cells and gallows Fremantle Prison is a monument to a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent. Fremantle Prison now holds the key to history, mystery and fun. Step inside and do time with experienced guides on a fascinating Prison Day Tour. Explore the labyrinth of tunnels 20m beneath the Prison by foot and by boat on a Tunnels Tour adventure. Feeling brave? Delve into the darker side of the Prison’s history on an eerie Torchlight Tour.

We had Chris for our True Crime Tour and Janine for our Torch Light tour which were both really good and worth doing. The True Crime tour talks about crimes committed but does not go in to too much detail and therefore is not gross. If you want to hear more about the Claremont case I can recommend the Crime Junkie pod cast which has an episode on the case... This does however go in to a fair amount of detail and would not be recommended for under 16s. The Torch Light tour is good and a very different experience again. A little scary at times but great fun and interesting history on the place.
