Buckhorn Tavern

We try to patronize local businesses. We hadn’t eaten here since our last experience which was intended to be a celebration before starting my first round of chemotherapy. That evening was so awful we waited 8 years to go back. This evening wasn’t much better. The service was okay but the food was lacking. My husband ordered the beef tips and mushrooms medium and received them beyond rare inside. Even he was a bit put off. My dinner, breasted chicken was very good, however it would have been preferable to eat it from a plate and not a pewter or aluminum skillet with my side in a tiny dish. The restaurant was not very busy being a Wednesday evening and the service was okay not actually attentive. I nearly stepped to the bar to ask for a refill as my soda had been twice refilled from a carafe and was flat. It will be awhile before we return to the Buckhorn.

We attempted dinner at Carvers in Dayton tonight for Mikes birthday ... Such a disappointment. I will refrain from anything more than facts about our horrible Carvers experience. Our plan was to try something new, after a few recommendations, we made reservations. Upon arriving for our 7:15, we were sat 30 min later (side note those walking up were only given 15-20 min waits). After being sat, we waited a while and finally acknowledged and were offered waters. Which took another 10 mins to come. At this time, I placed appetizer of calamari. That came about 20 mins later and was disgusting. We got our drinks and our salads arrived. Not too bad, however Mike had ordered a spinach salad that was to come with slivered almonds, cranberries, apples and dressing. The spinach and almonds was all he got. Moving on ... our drinks have been empty for sometime and no one has returned to our table. Trying to enjoy the evening with my husband and our sons I try to just let things go. Unfortunately, it doesn’t get better. Out comes our entrees - JUST KIDDING, the plates were nothing that we ordered. Not even close. I excuse myself and request a manager. He comes from the kitchen, I express my experience thus far - still NO REFILLS on our drinks. He apologizes and I’m hopeful he’ll get a new waiter and rush drinks over - NO he doesn’t. 13 minutes, YES I was timing, 13 minutes go by and Tyler has gone to the bar to get another drink and he goes back to speak to the manager. The manager now sends a lady, who was sent from the back to apologize to us telling us the manager, who is now MIA, is covering all our costs for the evening. That’s real thoughtful - but you haven’t even refilled a thing for us, still no food. So another 15 min goes by and no food. I’m fuming, and amazed this was really happening. The women who was sent out, comes to tell us our food is almost ready. We kindly decline and express how nothing was attempted to be rectified. If they cared, we would have been taken care of in a timely fashion, instead they just wanted us out the door and attempting to avoid any negative reviews. Well your food isn’t worth being free either - we stood up and left and will never be back. It was an all around horrible experience from the second we walked in the door. WORST EXPERIENCE

Always like eating at Longhorn Steakhouse. I was hesitant based on TA reviews, but went to try it while traveling in the area on business. Arrived about 8 pm...not busy on a Monday night. First sign this was not going to be a great experience was when unrolling the napkin with the utensils in it one of the forks had left over steak and grease on it...really! Eventually, the wait person came to my table, took my order and said would be back with my drink and bread. Drink arrived but the bread didn't until my Grilled Chicken Strawberry Salad arrived. Wait person "forgot about it". Salad was very good and the bread as well. :-) Once finished the bill was provided. Placed credit card in the black portfolio thing and waited and waited and finally just got up and went to the kitchen to inform them I want to check out. Oh, "thought already checked me out". The black portfolio thing had sticky stuff inside it like from a dessert or something. Also, the exterior of the drink/dessert book on the table was very sticky...gross. Very surprised as Longhorn usually has higher standards. Their corporate leadership needs to give a surprise visit and get things corrected. Very disappointing experience! Now I understand the lower TA rating provided by others. Will not return here again.

Ok, first the annoying: we called to make a Saturday evening reservation and were told that reservations were only for groups of 5 or more. When we arrived, the hostess said, "Oh, then you should have simply called ahead." Wait. What? Apparently their rules of engagement allow for calling ahead when you're 30 minutes out. Be nice to have that info on their website and/or for the reservation-taker to have mentioned this. The rest was actually quite pleasant after our hour wait. Food was high quality, servers were attentive and efficient and the low ceiling effective in keeping ambient noise to a minimum.0

This our first visit to the re-branded Redlands Grill. I selected the Grilled Pork Loin with Smashed Garlic Potatoes for $20.95. The pork loin was perfectly cooked, moist and tender. The pile of garlic potatoes was generous and delicious. She ordered the Jumbo Fried Shrimp ($24.95) and they were really jumbo and very good. The Maker's Mark Manhattan was $14. But the drink comes in a glass with an overflow flask with what amounts to a second drink. A glass of Wente Chardonnay was $9. Tevonte was very attentive. Note - their tip suggestion included tax.

We really enjoy Flemings and visit frequently. However on this visit the steak on the Filet Benedict seemed to be a little tough and chewy and not up to what we have had in the past. The dish was not flooded with Hollandaise Sauce either, more of a light drizzle. Madison R. was not familiar with the luncheon drinks prices and I had to ask her to redo our check. I still think I was overcharged for our Bloody Marys.

We had a wonderful evening there and everyones steaks were cooked to perfection! Only positive comments from everyone in our group about their dinners. It was a truly enjoyable evening. Can't wait to return! Before this trip, every time we were in the Dayton area we would try to go to the Oakwood Club. This trip we came to the Pine Club after a friends recommendation. I couldn't be happier. All I can say this restaurant is hands down better than the Oakwood Club and we will come back on our next visit! I wish we could be back in Dayton next week to enable us to dine at the Pine Club again. As other people have said, they don't accept credit cards, take only cash or a check.
