This small family run restaurant is a must!! The people are so friend & the meals are full of flavour. Slightly hidden down the alley way but worth stopping by. The menu includes a story about the background of the family - a nice touch :)

Loved this place! Very relaxed and fantastic food. Great range of drinks at a good price. Loved the ginger soda, chicken burger. We also had breakfast there and eggs were cooked to perfection!

We had dinner at Black and White restaurant last night. The most beautiful setting on the beach lit by candlelight. Our waiter was fantastic and so friendly!We went to have a look at todayâs fish which was freshly caught that day and had it all explained by the head chef (who was also great and very friendly!). We went with the jumbo prawns and tiger prawns and oh my goodness!! They were cooked in a garlic butter sauce and were INCREDIBLE! And we had finger bowls which is the first restaurant that has provided us with these this trip (without asking)!Highly recommend Black and White restaurant to anyone visiting Unawatuna. Our most favourite meal whilst in Sri Lanka and that is saying something as the food has been fabulous. Service makes the experience even better. This place is awesome! Manoja and her family are so hospitable and welcoming. She treats her restaurant and customers like guests in her home. Iâve visited for the three-veggie curry special a handful of times.. every time has been excellent!!! Amazing food for an excellent value - definitely worth coming back!!!!

Came here on the recommendation of locals and we were not disappointed. Great little find down a narrow alleyway off main road. Food was superb - all freshly cooked, great choice on the menu, homemade, huge portions. We had a starter and a main and ended up ordering an extra of humous to take home as it was so nice.Plenty of choice if you wanted to return.

What a fabulous day we had with Wasantha and her daughter. Our morning at the local market was good fun. We got to choose the vegetables to go into our curries. It was lovely to have this option and shows great flexibility with the very talented chef! We chose okra, mango, aubergine and beetroot. We then went along to the fish market to choose tuna. There was a great buzz around the markets and Wasanthaâs daughter was very polite and shared lots of information about the food on offer.Back at their home is where the real fun began. Set up on a high slope along the winding streets of Unawatuna is Wasanthaâs hidden gem of a restaurant. Their kitchen is outdoors and we were perfectly covered during the monsoon outside. Lots of AC too. We prepared and chopped our vegetables as Wasantha and her daughter talked us through the small steps of our meals. We had such fun and we were blown away by Wasanthaâs skill. Sheâs an incredible chef and it was truly watching a master at work. Her precision and attention to detail was so natural and fascinating to watch. We prepared 5 curries in total which was served with white rice and poppadoms. The mango curry was the best curry either of us had ever had and the deep fried aubergine was something weâll cook over and over again! We took pictures of Wasanthaâs recipes at the end and enjoyed a really lovely chat with Wasantha as she shared the history of her restaurant.An absolute must do and one of the best cooking classes Iâve ever done. Wasantha is a spectacular chef who we learned so much from. Her class is one of the most reasonable by far and Iâd struggle to imagine any could be better. We did not stay at this lovely property but ate in it 3 nights out of 7! Food was wonderful, beside the sea with turtles popping their heads up a few metres away in the waves. Great, friendly staff and freshly prepared food. Also one of the fab swings that goes over the sea is part of the property.
