Top 10 Specialty lodgings in Caribbean,

April 22, 2023 Christa Meece

Lounging on smooth Caribbean sands can be more restorative than the most luxurious spa treatment. Stretches of white and black beaches spill into the coolest, bluest waters of your dreams. A Caribbean island is the perfect literal jumping off point for a snorkeling or dive excursion, and the sea life seems just as welcoming as the islanders themselves. Sipping a tropical a cocktail while the sun paints the sky in shades of tangerine, you’ll ask yourself: “Is this heaven?”

Great hostal, lovely staff!

Reviewed By edotl

Would definitely recommend this hostal! The building is beautiful, breakfast is delicious and best of all the staff are the loveliest of people! We want to thank Sarais and Aramis specifically for being so kind, friendly and helpful to us with all of our questions. They really made our stay here special and are wonderful people! The owner Richard is really welcoming and lovely and was a huge help so big thanks too! Our one piece of general advice would be to make sure you bring lots of cash with you to Cuba! The exchange rate at the ATM here is so bad that you’ll end up paying 4x the price for everything!!

Highly recommend Paseo to anyone travelling to Havana. The owners and staff are wonderful and have a "can-do" attitude about anything and everything you may need for your stay - tours, taxis, restaurant reservations, etc. The rooms are gorgeous and perfect for a couple's stay. Bonus - They organize the most incredible jazz evenings on Thursday evenings.

Unfortunately we are unable to provide a true and honest review on this Casa. as we did not stay here. Looked after brilliantly in a fabulous part of the world

Reviewed By TimOldham

We stayed with Daniel (Motica) for four nights and were brilliantly looked after. We had a big room upstairs with the balcony at the top of the stairs to ourselves. Daniel always made sure we had everything we needed and made us wonderful meals, catering for our vegetarian diet. When we had a medical problem out of a trip into Zapata he got us an ice pad and organised for us to see a local doctor, sorting out our travel to the local hotel where the doctor was in residence. His place is very close to the beach but also nice and quiet, we weren't disturbed by any of the parties happening there. It's an excellent location for going into Zapata too - we had two lovely days birding with a local guide, Kiko. While we had to rest up we could watch local life go by too.

Beautiful setting, aircon and kitchen terrace

Reviewed By Cheshirewoman

We stayed in this hotel for 7 nights in May, i.e. low season. We arrived at 8pm when reception was already closed but there was a sign for us with a number to call and assistance arrived within a couple of minutes. Please note that Google maps has the address for this place slightly wrong. We followed the directions and ended up a few roads further on, having to do a three point turn in the dark and with the backwheels in a ditch! The next morning the manager took us back with a few helpful blokes who managed to lift the car out without any problems, great assistance! We opted to have breakfast every morning. Whilst it may seem expensive €15.50 per person) what you pay for is having limitless breakfadt in a beautiful setting overlooking the pool. Btw, this hotel was the setting for one of the death in paradise episodes. Breakfast was buffet style with fruit, yoghurts, cheese and cold meats, , pastries, rolls, cereals and cooked eggs to order. On days where there are only very few people you have the breakfast delivered directly to you table. Whilst we were there, the restaurant was closed but we managed to sort ourselves out a quick snack from the basic food store next door (by the petrol station) and after that found a couple of larger supermarkets towards St. Rose (E Leclerc and Carrefour). Of the two, we preferred the carrefour where we also managed to buy some cheap towels for the beach. The apartments on our side had all been newly renovated and were beautifully done up. The main room has aircon enabling a good nights sleep. The bathroom feels luxurious with a walk in shower. The terrace has a small kitchen corner with a fridge, microwave and a two ring ceramic hob. There was plenty of equipment to cook for two. Mosquitos were a problem though, even with 50% deet but so far, no major effects. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Hire a car and there are plenty of attractions to explore within an hours drive.

Really great place to stay!

Reviewed By KellySNJ

This is a fantastic condo! My husband and I didn’t want to spend all of our money on an all inclusive, so we decided to try something different. Aruba has so much to offer and we wanted to go out and explore while also having the option to stay in if we wanted, as well. And we did! We rented a car from Yess Express (highly recommend) and had free parking right outside our condo. The walk to the beach is maybe 5 minutes if you have to stop for cars to go by at the end of the road. Gabriella gave us everything we needed- two chairs, towels and a cooler- to bring with us. Umbrellas are already on the beach if you get there early or late enough to use them, so no need to worry about that too much. The pool is very clean and perfect location and temperature. There were always chairs available and usually only a handful of other people there at a time, so we never felt overcrowded or overwhelmed by others. We even used the grills one night which were so easy and we had all the tools we needed. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes, utensils, coffee pot & things, etc. we went to Ling & Sons twice while there to keep ourselves stocked which is maybe 10 minutes driving from the condo. Both the living room and bedroom have air conditioning units and they are wonderful! The bed was also quite comfortable and we slept well every night. Noise levels were not an issue either. There were several families with small children and we only ever heard them when we sat outside if they were also outside. Otherwise, we had no idea they- or really anyone else- were there. And everyone we did see, employees or guests, were so friendly! Downtown Oranjestad and Paseo Herencia Mall are 15 minutes driving in opposite directions and have everything else you could need for restaurants and shopping. The airport was also super easy and about 15-20 minutes to get to and from with a gas station in between, if you do rent a car. You can also hit a few small restaurants plus a handful of resort restaurants near the condo with a 5-minute car ride or 12 minute walk. There are also Bird rentable bikes and scooters everywhere that are easy and convenient to use, as well. The restaurant on site (Fruto D’Mare) is adorable and has some great food and cocktails. Service was great, too! We also really enjoyed Zucchini which was steps outside the complex. The mini mart right next door was also quite nice and convenient when we needed something quick. Overall, I highly, highly recommend staying here if you’re looking for something more quiet/away from normal resorts and activity. Plus, it’s a great way to save money while still enjoying a really nice, relaxing vacation! When we come back to Aruba, we’ll be reaching out to them again for sure!

The people who work there make this resort a wonderful experience and the beach is beautiful. We are familiar with the Secrets brand & this location falls very short even if I tried to overlook some of the reviews. After 2 years of not being able to travel of course we appreciated our experiences but it's not Secrets standard. The AMAZING charming Charmen (need to bring her at the front of the house!), Antoinette (different flowers in her hair every day - she's a ray of sunshine) & Ivan (just a class act) at breakfast and lunch just made my day! Elisha at the evening bar - hard worker and just full service dealing with all the characters at the bar! It's quiet, calm, not a party place - which was fine! Get out of the resort and do things: Jo's Charter at the marina or take a drive and visit the island. Security could be better too, ppl paid for Preferred Club & just about everyone used the place - not worth the expense. Also, on the beach several ppl from other resorts occupied beach chairs that weren't guests of the resort. We walked to the front entrance one evening & no security was spotted.
