A hidden gem, for sure! Excellent terrain, clean lodge, friendly staff, and just a fun mountain. We will definitely be back. We took advantage of the LL Bean $15 Friday with friends. All 4 of us were very pleased.

Sunday River Ski Resort

Large resort complex for downhill skiing.

Sunday River offers so much fun year round for groups, couples, and families. They are perhaps best known for their skiing in the winter. They have, perhaps, the best snow making capabilities in the East, making visits here consistently great for skiing and riding. They have an expansive network of trails -- the only challenge is navigating across the peaks. If you are not careful, you could end up far away from where you are staying or are parked at the end of the day. Good news, though, is that they run shuttles to help you get around. We've begun to enjoy their adventures in other seasons. They offer downhill mountain biking, disc golf, hiking, ziplines, rock climbing, pony rides, and trampoline adventures during the summer and fall. Additionally, Sunday River hosts weekend festivals all year long. In the fall, we've enjoyed the fall festival with the Wife Carrying Competition and Cornhole Tournament. They often host live music at the South Ridge Lodge. Additionally, they often have fireworks, including on New Years' Eve. Our favorite on-mountain place to stay is at the Sunrise Condos, though we also highly recommend the Grand Summit. The Grand Summit offers breakfast at its Camp restaurant, which is a perfect start to your day of adventure.

Sugarloaf Mountain Resort in Maine is one of the top year-round destinations in New England. Sugarloaf is the largest ski area east of the Rockies, with trails and glades spread across Sugarloaf Mountain, Brackett Basin and Burnt Mountain. Additionally, the resort offers many winter activities including skiing, snowboarding, tubing, nordic skiing, snowshoeing, concerts, slopeside lodging and terrain parks. Summer offerings include golf, hiking, mountain biking, moose view tours plus facilities to host conferences and weddings.

Sugar Loaf offers great vertical, lots of terrain, and well maintained trails. It's truly got something for everyone. We especially enjoy the super long cruisers. The staff are exceptionally friendly. There are lots of ski in ski out lodging options as mountain real estate tends to be well thought out.

Saddleback

At Saddleback, we've taken a different road from other large resorts. From our natural terrain and our wilderness environment to how the mountain was developed and is operated, almost everything about Saddleback is different. It's a magnificent mountain with genuine values and a gentle soul. It's the way Alpine skiing and riding used to be. Classic New England ski terrain with trails that follow the contours. Snow-covered conifers over most of the mountain create a different feel with rime-frosted trees at the lower elevations and snow ghosts at the upper. High elevation alpine experience with snowfields. At 4120 ft elevation, Saddleback is only one of seven ski mountains in New England with atop lift elevation over 4000 feet. Our vertical is greater than several well-known big mountain resorts. Kennebago Steeps! is the largest steep skiing and riding facility in the East. Saddleback has extensive glades like other ski areas but only Saddleback has Casablanca Glades & Chutes which provide endless ways down through Paradise.

Saddleback is back and a great addition to Maine and New England skiing. Saddleback has a great mix of bumps, glades and nice groomers. Given its northern location, Saddleback maintains mid season snow conditions late into the season. We visited mid March and everything wa open with good snow on bumbs, glades, and groomers. Saddleback only has a few lifts, but the new detactable guad gets lots of skiers up quickly limiting lines and given the modest number of skiers willing to travel to Saddleback, it doesn't get crowded. And given all of this, the price can't be beat. Will definitely be going back.

We bought a mid day ticket for our family..I was surprised that I had to.pay $5 for the RFID card - I never paid anything extra in other places. The mountain is nice - a little steep to our liking, the workers are nice, great variety - we were not bored and felt challenged. Recommend to visit.

Mount Abram

Don’t usually leave reviews on ski mountains. Other mountains may occasionally feel like big overpriced soulless companies with long lines, strict policies, and cold employees. Mount Abram’s smaller size and general obscurity lends itself to a more fulfilling (and less expensive) experience. Visited 01/25/2020 and ended up at the beginners (west?) side of the mountain at one point. That side was busy on a Saturday but we killed some time and stopped into the lodge to grab a beer. Sat on the deck and watched the lessons. This must be THE place to learn to ski. The instructors seemed very good. Went to the lift line and we were greeted by the friendliest employee we’ve ever seen at a ski mountain. He greeted everyone with a smile and cheered on kids for getting on the chair without falling by using words like “Awesome” “great” and “you’ve got this” ...In front of us in line was a small child skiing alone. The lift guy (later found out his name was Tony) instructed the child and assisted them onto the chair. But when the chair went forward a ski stayed behind on the ground. Tony quickly realized that the small kid was about to go up alone with only one ski. They stopped the lift. Tony swooped in, grabbed the ski, shook off the snow, ran up, and held it upwards so the lone child skier could get the ski back on their boot. He was smiling the whole time. Told the somewhat scared kid that everything was going to be okay, then He apologized to us for the wait... saying he should have been even quicker. No apology necessary! It was nice to see someone so capable and friendly. This was mainly a post to highlight one particularly amazing employee that made us realize we were at someplace more special than a jumbo-sized resort. 10/10 would go back. The lift ticket price is low, the value is high, and even though it’s a smaller mountain there’s quite a few interesting, somewhat challenging trails. Keep up the good work Mt Abram! I’ll be back with friends who want to learn skiing!
