This museum is exactly what I like - it was of a medium size and contained just the right amount of a mix of different museum artifacts. The museum is over three floors in the old King's House building. The layout is well-done. On the bottom floor are triptychs, statues from buildings in the city, and lots of dishes, vases, etc, made locally out of pewter, silver, and other materials, while on the second floor are many wonderful maps of the city as well as two huge models of the city. I was really impressed by the city models - done in meticulous detail and very interesting. There are several tapestries (my favorite) on the second floor, as well. The top-floor was the best. There's the original archangel fighting the dragon statue that was once on top of one of the buildings there in the Grand Place, and it's several centuries old. The top-floor is laid out in a timeline, going over the history of Brussels city. Whereas on the first two floors all the descriptions of items were only in French and Dutch, on the top-floor the descriptions were also in English which I appreciated as it let me gain a better understanding of the city's history. Throughout the museum are paintings of the city and its environs, many from the 16th century. While I visited, there was an exhibition on Manneken Pis (not sure if it's a permanent exhibition), giving a history of the little peeing boy. This was really interesting, as I didn't know much about the statue or its history. One of the original statues is on display, as are several of his costumes. Overall, a fantastic museum giving an excellent history of Brussels. Both the exterior and the interior of the building put you right in the atmosphere of a European city of centuries past - a great experience. This quickly became one of my favorite museums - definitely recommended!

Leuven is a city east of Brussels, Belgium, known for its breweries. On a central square is the 15th-century town hall, with its tall spires. Opposite, the late Gothic St. Peter’s Church houses a “Last Supper” by the Flemish Primitive painter Dieric Bouts. Nearby, Oude Markt is a long square lined with bars and cafes.

No visit to Brussels could be complete without taking some time out to tour a few of charming historical Flemish villages. Away from the typical tourist routes, these enchanting towns give you a chance to really immerse yourself in history and legend as you enjoy a private guided tour to three nearby locations: Leuven, Mechelen and Lier. A private tour of these historical Flemish towns is a pleasant excursion that everyone who participates also enjoys. The tour begins with a visit to the town of Leuven and its magnificent Town Hall, an elaborate Gothic structure that dominates the Grote Market. Next stop is picturesque Mechelen, where we'll take a guided walking tour to see fairy tale palaces and intriguing public buildings. Lier is the final town on the itinerary for your private tour of historical Flemish towns. This intriguing walled village boasts magnificent construction, most notably its spectacular Town Hall adjoining a 14th century Gothic medieval siege tower.

Thankfully, the battlefield is largely as it appeared in 1815. Rolling hills, farm fields, the wooded and walled Hougoumont (well-restored) and la Haye Saint (not so much). Still, the vibe and the atmosphere is evocative of the crucial Napoleonic struggle that took place here. The museum is excellent. Creative displays, lots of artifacts. The great Lions mound is a bit of a distraction. But it does afford spectacular views of the entire battlefield. Two downsides: the busy road that runs right through the field, north to south, is a little offputting. And Napoleon’s command position was overgrown with shrubs when I was there.

It was a great day to visit the city since there was not so many people in the city - the architecture in this student city is very gothic and intense. This was a day trip and I hope to visit again some day to take more stunning architecture photos.
