The largest and most famous of Tuscany’s spa towns, Montecatini Terme has been revered for its curative waters since at least the 16th century, when the first baths were built here. Two centuries later, neighborhood royalty began to take note after the opening of the town’s first grand spas, putting Montecatini Terme firmly on the aristocracy's radar. Beyond the array of fine spas featuring treatments old and new, today’s visitors come for the shopping, dining and sporting offerings, as well.

We stayed at the Grand Plaza Hotel and this fountain was the view from our window. We enjoyed sitting in the Piazza del Popolo people watching and listening to a street musician.

karst cave located just one kilometer from the city center of Montecatini Terme. immersed in a large natural park that contains other small surprises like an ancient gunpowder deposit made more than 100 years ago in an active natural cave and a small climbing wall the structure has ample parking, bar and restaurant service the main cave is a place of winter hibernation by a colony of bats, hence the choice to close early November to reopen more or less in the Easter period

Piazza del Popolo is a great meeting place in the heart of Montecatini Terme anytime, day or evening. It also has a little something for everyone. There is a beautiful fountain that serves as a great landmark. There are several shops, cafes and restaurants around the area to keep you occupied while waiting for your companions. There are also several hotels round the piazza or just steps away. You could easily spend a day here shopping at stores like Gucci, or enjoying some Italian cuisine either inside or outside on one of the many patios set up allowing you to enjoy the fresh air while you dine. There is also a unique and modern Basilica if you need some quite time to reflect. We walked here several times in the evening during our visit to Tuscany and enjoyed it along with many others. I would highly recommend visiting Piazza del Popolo during your visit to the area to experience some of the local culture first hand.
