Pevnost Komarno

This unique fortified building is the most expansive system of fortifications in Central Europe. The oldest part, the so-called Old Fortress, was built in the 16th century on the site of the former mediaeval castle. In the 17th century it was expanded by the so-called New Fortress.

The building was the home of the army officiers in the 19th centudy. The Neo-Gothic building is one of the buildings of Selye University, and you can find conference hall and restaurants in it.

Mor Jokai, the famous Hungarian novelist was born in Komarno in 1825 and spent his childhood also in the town. His statue is at the yard of Museum "Duna mente". It was created by Gyula Berecz in 1936.
