Amaragiri Malekal Tirupati Temple

Reviewed By EkMusafir - Pune, India

The temple is located about 2 km from the town of Arasikere in Malekal village. It is dedicated to Lord Venkataramana Swamy, also known as Lord Balaji. Legend has it that Sage Agasthya got the darshan of Lord Balaji after praying here for 800 years. Later the ashram of the sage was abandoned. The actual site where Sage Agasthya performed his penance is on top of a hill called Malekallu. Many many years later a temple was built here by a ruler of Chitradurga who found the idol of Lord Balaji buried under the earth. This is the temple known as the Amaragiri Malekallu Tirupati, and one has to climb 1200 to reach it. The statues of both Lord Venkataramana and Goddess Padmavathi are installed together at the hilltop temple, whereas the idol of Lord Govindaraja Swamy is installed at the temple at the foot of the hill, where the ruler discovered the idol while digging for a pond to supply water to the village. Many devotees of the nearby places visit this temple instead of going all the way to the main Balaji Temple of Tirupathi, and hence it has come to be known as Chikka Tirupati by the local people.

Hoysaleswara Temple

Reviewed By IQKaur - Bengaluru, India

We decided to stop here on way to Chikamagalur and we just fell in love with this temple. The stone carvings just blew our minds away. I wish Karnataka Tourism would market this as well Rome markets Colosseum or Greece markets Delphi. This place is so much better preserved and so much more beautiful than the Delphi or Acropolis or Colosseum or Pompeii Just 45 min from Hassan and open from sunrise to sunset - it can make a perfectly good day trip for Bangalore if you can start early in the morning.

The temple is on the hillock with breathtaking views around. Its a jain pilgrimage with large monolithic statue of lord gomateshwara( dedicated to Jain figure Bahubali), a arduous climb of 300+ steps to reach which is worth a visit. People with heart issues if visiting need to take this climb slowly and take care.
