I think M Mall isn't going to last much longer. Today, 11 Jan 2020 the 2nd floor is deserted. Not even the usual 'gathering' of senior and younger folks enjoying the free WiFi and air-con. Perhaps it was due to the air-con being switched off. Seeing as how its days are limited, perhaps I'll take the opportunity to indulge you with a short history of George Town's most controversial mall. I've been a visitor since the early days. Back then it was only Penang Times Square (PTS). Because I lived nearby, I could shop for groceries at Sunshine (where M Galleria is now), electrical goods at SEC and household items at Mr DIY. I could also get my phone serviced at the Maxis office on the ground floor. During the early days, there was also a limited period where you could buy a whole roasted chicken for RM5 I think (or was it RM8?)! The lines were long. You came early, you joined the long queue already there, you were given a ticket with a number, then you came back to pick up your bird 2 hours later. All these outlets packed up a long time ago. But even in those days, PTS wasn't the most crowded of malls, compared with the nearby Komtar, Prangin Mall and 1st Avenue. I remember kids using the corridors on the 2nd floor as a roller blade skating rink. Of the few shops that were opened on the 2nd floor were, coincidentally, a roller blade shop. The concourse on the 1st floor, next to where the food court is located, was used by hobbyists to practice flying their radio controlled helicopters. M Mall was still in construction at the time and the only business activity there was when Big Bad Wolf had a book sale. When M Mall did open, there were visitors aplenty, mostly locals, but they were there mostly to satisfy their curiosity and to pose for selfies with the numerous props found all over the place. The Fun Ride cars were quite popular too, for a while. When the Chinese visitors started arriving in droves, armed with M points, business was over the top fantastic! The crowds were so huge that the usually spacious corridors were congested, and the aircon, going at full blast, was barely sufficient to cool the air. So many people, so much noise, and so much fun, even for those merely observing!! Shops that were especially popular with the Chinese tourists were Asian Native (with their lavender shopping bags), Ecolite, the posh Vanessa's Gallery and the numerous luggage outlets. After the MCall / M Money scandal, the Chinese tourists stopped coming, and the popularity of M Mall plummeted almost as quickly as it had risen. Worse, the local visitors also stopped coming. Shops started closing down one by one. Today, a few shops are still open, barely surviving, with the exception of Wine Houz, Ming Garden (only when there are functions) and Tao. These outlets are all located at the former PTS. M Mall is definitely winding down. Perhaps PTS will remain open, back to what it originally used to be. Goodbye M Mall :'(

My partner rent apartment in straits quay marina and its a beautiful place...big apartment...and the view is totallyperfect...from balconny we can see the real beauty og penang...super enjoy having coffe tea ta morning.. and wine at night❤???? And so many pubs and restaurant u can choose... having beer before dinner...u can have western and asian food there too...apartment we rent is reasonable price..i love it 100%

Went to find a shop to make a new glasses and couldn't be more happier. Highly recommended VISION FIRST OPTIC that are located at lower ground of Prangin Mall. 5 Star Service from them. Can't be any better. Thanks to Patrick & Matthew. Was greeted by Matthew upon entering and hes been great in explaining what type of promotion is available and after doing a basic eye check he then explain on how high my current power/astig is and he further recommended a frame that is suitable for me. He then explained on the type of lenses that are available and the additional benefit it provided. As I have a bit of a budget, I'll opt for Crizal Preventia lenses. Matthew was great in explaining the differences between the lenses. He also did a price breakdown for each type of lenses to see if the price offered meets my budget.(To know the price breakdown between all the lenses is a GREAT plus for me & it help me in choosing the suitable one) A further eye test for the glasses is done by Patrick and he's such a wholesome guy! The eye test is done meticulously as he wanted me to have a perfect vision when using the glasses. The equipment for the eye test is said to give a more precise result. He take great care in explaining the process during the eye test. Some places take a fast time for the eye test but not here. You'll be sure to have a great optician that really care for your eye and he even recommend me to come back in a few month to do a eye test and check if there any increment in my eye power free of charge.

This iconic landmark located in the heart of Georgetown, affectionately know as Sin Sei Kai for local Penangites. It was the entertainment hub from the late 1930s to the mid 1960s.
