Reds Restaurant Incorporated

Reviewed By BONNIE T - PITTSFORD

This restaurant was recommended to us by the motel desk staff. In fact, we were given upon checkin a coupon for 10% off of our total bill if we showed the restaurant staff our room key. Before going to the restaurant, we checked out its menu online. It was advertised as a family restaurant. I would describe the atmosphere as more fine dining than casual. It was about 6 pm on a Saturday night; there were no children in the restaurant - just couples and older folks; clearly some were dressed for a special occasion dinner. Service was good but on the slower side.

We had drinks and wine. Happily the meal started with salads - fresh spring greens, tasty dressings. I had salmon wellington which was excellent. The sides, however, were unimpressive: a dried, hard baked potato and sauteed, totally tasteless zucchini.

When presented the bill, we gave our server the coupon from the motel and showed our room key (by the way the motel was just down the road from this restaurant). Our server took it to her manager.????? She came back and told us that they would only take 5% off of our bill, not the advertised 10%.

Shocked and a little angry, we paid the bill. As soon as we went back to the motel, we talked with the motel manager. After all, the motel was advertising the discount and the restaurant - while the restaurant wasn't honoring the coupon. He was going to look into the "deal" with Red's.

Once back to our room, we happened to look at the monthly travel magazine in the room - advertising local sites, restaurants, etc. Right there in that month's magazine- distributed to all motels, visitor centers in the area - was Red's advertisement. Bring in your room key and get 10% off!!!

Quality of service was good. Quality of food was ok. Integrity of restaurant was non-existent.

Quarry is a good location for family celebrations, parties, and organization dinner meetings. Family style dinners are the best. The room may be divided for smaller parties or the whole private room used for larger parties. The restrooms could use an update.

Took my Granddaughter here for breakfast after church. I had to go out to the car and get our sweaters, the air conditioning was on full blast, not just chilly. I know we were having a het wave, but this was ridiculous. We ordered our muffins, tea and juice, and a big bacon, egg & cheese sandwich. We sat down to eat, but we had to leave and have our meal at home, way too cold. The sandwich was cold by the time we drove home as well. Not sure i'll go back to this one.

We tried this waterfront dining restaurant for the 1st time last Friday for dinner. Upon our arrival, we were thrilled with the views of the river & boats as well as with their specialty drink menu. For it not being busy when we arrived, the service was slow followed by disappointing meals. The crab cake sandwich was delivered with wilted arugula on it. The crab cake was dwarfed by the bun. There was no sauce on the side, it was VERY basic. Our other entree was one of their "signature dishes", a seafood pot pie. Something was either way off in the kitchen that night or it's just an average rating restaurant. We would return for a beer & the view and maybe something basic like wings but not for a full dinner.

DAMON BAEHREL

Since 1989,DAMON BAEHREL has worked completely alone at his home, which is where his small, handbuilt, 20 seat restaurant & 12 acre property/farm, that is the only source of ingredients for his original NATIVE HARVEST CUISINE, is located. Having no suppliers, Damon also creates all of the flours, fresh pressed oils, cheeses, pineneedle cured meats and vinegars from cultivated & native ingredients found on the property. Formally known as Damon Baehrel at The Basement Bistro, the restaurant has become a destination for food enthusiasts from around the world, often waiting years for their reservation, excited to take in the 4-5 hour Native Harvest experience.

In a tiny town in a big forest near Albany sits this culinary treasure. Damon Baehrel forages all of the vegetables, flowers and herbs from the 12 acre woods surrounding his house - restaurant. Many of the "sauces" are made from oils and sap that have been maturing for days, weeks, months or even years. Our 20+ courses had over 300 different ingredients that arrived on our plates in astonishing combinations. This Nature Harvest was served to us as a meal that unfolded over 7 hours (and yet seemed like only 3). Damon forages, cooks, busses and washes without a single helper making the achievement all the more incredible. A final note lest I forget...every plate was delicious without exception and some dishes were simply spectacular. On the coast of Maine, most times seafood is served fresh or frozen. Here - 3 of 4 dishes were made from live seafood.

A very nice place that has endured long years in a place without massive crowds of customers. The owners are Greek, I think. The food was very good (Thanks Chef Dino). Jeannette's service was good, though it took longer than we thought for the food to come out. It was piping hot, ample servings, and came from a large variety on the menu. Three generations ( 7 in all) ate for $104 plus tip. We'll likely go back.

Family celebration for a 95th birthday. Mom loved being right by the water and watching the boats, both moored and traveling. Service was excellent without being overbearing. Everything ordered was delicious. It didn't hurt that the weather was finally dry! All in all a great time and we look forward to heading back here when we are in the Albany area again.

We ate at Flammerie the two nights we were in the Kinderhook area for Presidents' Day weekend. It was absolutely impressive and delicious. Connie, one of the owners, was so helpful and gracious in answering questions and making recommendations.

I've spent a bit of time in Germany and can vouch for the authenticity of Flammerie's high quality food.

Reservations seem to be mandatory. We had made a reservation for Saturday night well in advance, and while there on Saturday, we made a reservation for 5pm Sunday night. It seems that if you don't have a reservation in advance, you are pretty much out of luck OR you can try the 5pm slot which we prefer anyway.

Do not hesitate to book a meal here. The food, coupled with the genuine atmosphere, menu, and detailed/caring service by Connie, makes it a wonderful experience.

Thank you for being one of the highlights of our weekend!
